Carpeting barn doors

Ive carpeted the barn doors on my van, and noticed that the rain gets in on the top, where it’s exposed above the seal. Does anyone have a remedy for this?

Think you answer your own question it’s exposed around the seal. The seal that stops water getting in.

Yep, I'd have to agree.
The seal will have made a indent in the carpet, trim about 5-10mm in from that so the seal can press against the metal and you should be good.

Yeah I thought I’d have to trim it but it just looks bad when the doors open. I’ve seen a few builds where the whole door is carpeted they’ve not mentioned about the water getting in. I’ll have to trim it :0

Thanks for the reply’s!

Mines got the whole door carpeted and I've not had any issues with water getting in

Yeah it doesn’t get in as such but when it rains, if you open the door where it’s above the seal there’s water clinging on to the carpet. I’m not sure if this will soak through into the rest?

I was wondering about this, just about to mine and had planned to cut it around the seal surface

I am in the process of converting my maxi to a camper. It was already carpeted and i have added extra wool insulation .

The barn door frame parts are bare though which will in theory brisge the cold. Is there a noticeable benefit adding the stretch carpet to those sections in terms of warmth?

Thanks Rob

My barn doors are carpeted all the way to the top. The area above the seal does get wet but it's never caused any issues.

I actually used marine grade carpet so any water, moisture or damp won't cause it to rot.

The sliding door seems to get damp sometimes but this has also proved to not be a problem.

Instead of carpeting, is there any plastic trim pieces that can cover the exposed metal like for the sliding doors?
