Handle swap - school boy error

Post by LS Spark »

I finally got myself a set of Touran handles and went about fitting them this afternoon. All was going well till I got to the driver side😩

I removed the barrel for the lock, swapped the bits over and when I pushed it back in....something dropped down the inside of the door.

I closed the door and it opened up so I didn’t think too much of it.

Then I locked the door and now the door won’t open. The mechanism works and sounds like it’s unlocking.

I need to get the door open, card off and find whatever fell off.

How can I get the card off with door shut? Or open the door??

Help!!!

I got the door open and worked out what the issue was. The pull wire for the handle mechanism came off it’s mount.

Discovered another issue. The screw that holds the lock barrel seemed to be missing the clip that holds it in place is what fell into the door.

I was able to remove the skin enough to get my hand in there and found it. I’m not sure how it goes back in. Currently the lock barrel is loose.

I’ll have a go at removing the skin completely and try to get a better look at the position it needs to go in.

I can chuck some sound deadening in there at the same time

How did you get it back on?? Take the skin off and remove the handle mechanism?? Or can it go on another way??

Afraid not metal skin off mate but and easy job there is two grommets in the metal skin, wind your window down until you see the glass clamps undo the bolt pull your glass up and I taped it up out off way then pull skin off it has the window mech connected to it and then you free to take in handle off and rebuild and screw it back on I believe there is one screw holding the inner handle which you get at from outside

Thanks for your help. Tackled the door this afternoon and won.

Was fairly easy once the skin was off. That was the hardest bit
