This is insane! Just finished reading all 92 pages, the best project I've ever seen and the attention to details is incredible. Superb!

So I've had the harness bar tubing bent and I spent some time notching the tubing to fit the clamps. Not easy especially working in a confined space and where everything is trimmed! Can see why no one seemed keen to take this project on, hence why I've done it. But anyway, a friends dad tack welded it so I could test fit and its spot on! He's going to finish weld it for me and then it can be sent off for paint.

Another mini project that will no doubt take forever..........the grooves in the rear side panels have alcantara stretched into them. Always thought this would be an issue and sure enough, the glue is lifting a little bit. My solution is to fit some........anyone guess..........carbon!! Started mocking up and I've got to figure out how to attach them - current plan is to drill a hole in the back of them and glue in a threaded rod, drill a hole in the panel and attach a small nut on the back.

Just spent last two hours going thru all these pages mate and all can say is what an incredible van you have built!! 😍😍

You’ve def given me some body shop ideas for my new 2011 caddy that’s for sure 😉 just shame I won’t be able do too much with interior as it’s my business van!

I’ve been going through a few parts of the project I wasn’t happy with. The seats weren’t mounted in a good position. I felt too low and slightly off centre and consequently I strained my right foot when I got stuck in traffic on the m25. Plus the adapter plates were aluminium and should have been steel for safety.

Solution was simple. Go back to Touran bases as they are taller and make new adapter brackets. I also needed to change the angle the seats were set at and this also required some adapters which you can see here:

Finally got a plan for attaching the carbon rods to the panels.

Took a fir tree panel clip

Image

Trimmed down the head to end up with a T section

Image

Drilled a hole in the rod (nice little trick is to use a piece of the rod in the vice vertically which you then put the drill bit throughand that aligns the drill perfectly centered on the horizontal rod)

Image

Then with a dremel I cut a slot

Image

The T piece then slides in and is quite tight even before glue. I used a special carbon glue which is methyl methacrylate based and very strong http://www.easycomposites.co.uk/#!/resi ... esive.html to bond the trees in.

Image

A corresponding hole is then drilled into the panel and these trim pieces just push into place.
