Taddy TFSI

Post by Ollie370 »

I came up with the idea about 5 years ago, I wanted to buy a front end crashed caddy so I could do a Touran V2 conversion and at the same time do a TFSI DSG engine conversion. Well turned out things with work took a different route and I needed a van that I could use from day 1. So I got a DSG 1.9TDI BLS, did all the normal things suspension wheels etc. The. came up with a method to fit a PD170 turbo to the BLS engine, got bored of 200-210bhp and decided it was time to go the next step.

Last July I picked up a TFSI K04 engine for a bargain price, decided to pull the head to check that it was all good, and cleaned the valves as they suffer heavily from carbon build up on the valves.

Did the Touran V2 front end conversion last August. This is where the name Taddy came from. My mates started calling it Taddy as in TouranCaddy and it has stuck.

Then around Christmas time I took the plunge and pulled the engine out.

I had already stripped a MK5 GTi wiring loom apart that I had got hold of previously. I stripped out all the engine electronics, leaving the car loom behind. So I then had to strip the engine parts of the caddy loom and splice in the TFSI loom. This is what took the time in the whole conversion. 90% of time was spent doing the wiring, putting the engine is was pretty straight forward.

Started stripping the caddy loom

The van didn't have aircon so I fitted a scirocco heater box and touran aircon pipes and wired in full climate control from the MK5 golf.

Its up and running now, have given it a couple of test drives. Its running the 2012 Golf R map so is 260bhp, but once I have finished building an intake, building a 3" full exhaust and fitting a high pressure fuel pump it should be good for 370bhp.

Yes, I have R32/TTS brakes up front, but only standards on the rear. Need to upgrade the rears but haven't really looked into upgrade routes for these. So far they seem to be coping with scrubbing off speed but i don't know if they will still be ok when the power goes up. :D

Thanks for all your comments. Ive finally managed to get my power steering working again, it wouldn't calibrate properly. Ive also got hold of a new ABS unit now. I am going to change that which should mean I can use my new Golf R 200mph dials which will also allow me to see the rpm above 6k which is currently an issue :D
