I’ve seen this done on the inlet ports before. Rosten performance do it and I think that’s where dark side get their heads done.
I got my big valves from Rosten.
The theory about this Finnish on the port walls is this.
Air traveling down a tube has friction slowing it down. This gives a dead zone of slower moving air along the tube walls and the center section moves at a faster speed.
When you have this golf ball effect it makes the dead zone run closer to the port walls leaving a larger fast moving area in the middle of the port so you flow more air.

This morning I have pulled out my engine and gearbox. So now it’s time to crack on with converting it to 2.0 ltr.
I’m also going to make some other internal changes to the pistons to help with turbo spool and increase engine torque.

By the way if any one knows of anyone that might be interested I have a fully reconditioned BLS engine e here which has been converted to 2.0 ltr with the 150 crank and rods in it for sale. Also got a steel solid flywheel and clutch which is for a 6 speed box that won’t cause gearbox rattle.

Thanks m8. It’s one I built for a friend but he let me down on it so it stands me in quite a lot of money. It’s had a full engine ballence too

Starting to rebuild everything now. Most of the panels have arrived from vw and I have got hold of another 2016 touran front bumper to remake the custom bumper I made last time.
I’m also cracking on with the engine mods now too
The block is all bored out to the maximum oversize for the .5mm oversize 2.0ltr pistons. And I have started working out the piston protrusion and clearances for the valves. I’m machining the pistons to remove the valve pockets as I have modified the brand new head to sink the valves back a little to make them flush with the head face. Image
Here are a couple of pics of the head so far with the porting mostly done

Thanks torque.
It takes a lot of time and concentration as for the piston to head clearance I’m trying to work to a tolerance of 1 thou of an inch.
I’ve alway done my own head porting and gas flowing as when I was younger I worked for a company that was really into all the performance tuning and we had all the engine reconditioning equipment too.

That’s the pistons all machined now and ready for Balencing Image
I have almost finished the new cylinder head too and the block is now also ready to paint and build up.
I’ve spent hours skimming the block so that all the pistons protrude by exactly the same amount and working out the compression ratio

I have now finnished the engine and am working on making a new inlet manifold to help improve flow I have used the premium from a 2.5 transporter a manifold from an old pre pd Deisel engine and the flange from a pd manifold.
Once it all finnished and I have tig welded it all together it will sweep up over the rocker cover and drop down the front of the engine. Image
I’m also going to use the anti shudder valve from the 2.5 as it’s butterfly valve is 10mm larger than the bls one.
