Swedish microcamper
Starting a build thread for my project. Cut and paste from http://www.caddy2k.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=30009
Subtle grey van on the outside, plan is to make this a stealthy micro camper for cycling, kayaking and general outdoor life
Back in late september, after getting her. Had time for a quick wash, polish and wax job before the weather turned cold.
No big changes to date. Sitting on 15" winter wheels that used to be on my Audi S2. They look a LOT better on the Caddy! Never liked 'em on the S2...
Heko wind deflectors added
No big plans for the outside - just colour code the bumpers and add fog lights. Waiting for warmer weather... Looking at a set of 15" or 16" five spoke alloys for summer wheels.

Re: Swedish microcamper
Current progress on the inside... Sides, ceiling and doors sound proofed and insulated (7mm dodo mat). Floor and wheel wells sound proofed (silent coat). All upper panels carpeted, waiting to be installed, busy painting lower panels...
The upper panel of the sliding door all carpeted and ready, to remind me that the end result is worth the effort
Floor cleaned and ready for silent coat
So shiny

Re: Swedish microcamper
Updating with a bit of progress again
Carpeted both bulkheads on the cabin side. Cargo side is painted silver (forgot to take pic)
Very very happy they turned out so good! Not perfect by any means but more than good enough for me
(there's a seam of shame in the upper corner on both bulkheads...)
Removed the ceiling liner and got dodo mat on the cabin ceiling while the bulkheads are out.
Started on the wiring too by routing a cable from the battery to a distribution block in the left side passenger foot well. Forgot to take pics but will update later.
Coming along nicely at the moment, bit more preparation to do on the wiring and then it's time to reinstall the bulkheads and all panels

Looking good. Pretty much what I'll be doing to mine.
Just curious what you cleaned the floor with?

First, thankscaddywupz wrote:Looking good. Pretty much what I'll be doing to mine.

I started off by spraying the floor with a degreaser/sanitizer and wiped it off with a mildly damp sponge, this worked wonders! To have a proper clean surface for the silent coat I then finished up by wiping the floor down with isopropanol and paper.
Good luck on the van, and have fun!
edit: Here's what I used for the first clean (in Swedish) http://www.biltema.se/sv/Hem/Stad-och-t ... 000018165/

Re: Swedish microcamper
Bit of update again. Carpeted all metal work not covered by panels. No pictures but a bit can be seen in the last picture below, around the barn doors.
Just finished making blackout screens for the barn doors
Very simple ones: cloth for the outward facing side, dodo mat for a bit of insulation and finally carpet on the inside.
High tech CAD...
Cloth and dodo mat cut to fit
Carpet and base glued, magnets placed around the edges. All ready to be pressed together.
Screens in place

Sitting on the new summer wheels. Really need to wrap things up on the inside now so I can take the bumpers off for painting

Your insulation looks quite slick when compared to mine! haha! Ah well. As long as it does the job (hopefully).
Nice work so far!

Thanks, guess it could be a case of the camera not telling the whole truth thoughcaddywupz wrote:Your insulation looks quite slick when compared to mine! haha! Ah well. As long as it does the job (hopefully).

Had a look at your van and it's coming along nicely!

Re: Swedish microcamper
Not had time to do too much lately, work and other obligations have taken priority. Did squeeze in time for a significant update on the ICE though!
Head unit swapped for Joying android, also installed an active 8" sub
Function test
Alpine 8" active sub in the rear passenger foot well
New head unit in place
Complete with external mic for hands free
Dash cam
Aux input and USB port
Reversing camera yet to be installed...
So far very happy, it's a great upgrade to the oem sound system
Some minor caveats as with everything.
- The dash cam does not start automatically when the HU is powered on, have to start recording manually. Browsing joying forums there may be an updated app for the cam that solves this issue.
- Can't figure out how to switch to the aux input. Definitely no big issue as my plans to use aux are pretty much... never...

Re: Swedish microcamper
I've got an Eonon GA5153F, which is basically the same as this HU internally - great bases if you're into customising things, but they work pretty well stock too. I'm pretty sure the "AVIN" on your homescreen is the AUX, although I never use mine either (I've not even connected it) as I have Spotify on the HUmkrav wrote: - Can't figure out how to switch to the aux input. Re: Swedish microcamper
You're absolutely right on that one, and I realised this morning that I've been an utter dumb*ss when connecting the AUX input... Shouldn't really admit to this mistake in public, but here goes.TobyMTDI wrote:I'm pretty sure the "AVIN" on your homescreen is the AUX,
I had a look at the other wire harness (the HU came with two, one universal and one for VW). The connectors on the harness labelled aux in are supposed to connect to the back of the HU, connecting an oem aux in via the harness to the HU.
My mistake was connecting my aux port to these connectors and not straight into the HU. So, what I've done is connect the aux port to nothing...
The HU is coming out again in the weekend to hook up the aux correctly. Oh joy
