Caddy Budget Build
So here goes....this is the second Caddy I have owned. The first one was just how I wanted it although one night on my way home I was involved in a hit and run accident and they wrote my caddy off.
Always knew I would buy another one but budget this time round is tight. I wanted somewhere to get a dairy of all my progress and pictures so no better place than the forum.
Here is the picture of my first caddy before it went to the van graveyard.
So I went and bought another van that I knew needed some work but I think I got it at a good price.
2005 Caddy SDi
144,000 Miles
Paid £1300
My plans so far:
-Interior Clean Up
-New Seats
-Touran Centre Console
-Electric Windows
-New CD player
-Mk6 polo steering wheel
-Carpet Rear
-Colour Code Mirrors
-Colour Code door strips
-Colour code door handles
-Touran Bumper
-White rear bumper
-Lowering Kit
This list will grow and grow I'm sure as I'm constantly getting new ideas from the forum.
I believe the van was potentially used on a farm.
Paint work needs some serious attention. Front wing was dull in colour from grey primer under it not cover properly. Started to cut it out and wish I never started
You can see the dull paint work in the photo above. The next load of photos are me trying to rescue the panel.
Still needs more work on the wing but it's tough work so decided to move onto other things first
Colours coded the wing mirrors myself and really happy with how they turned out.
Moved inside next and got Touran centre console £30 including the armrest.

My seats where a total mess so decided to pick up some new style caddy seats from a chap on the forum

I have already installed the touran door cards and regulators for electric windows. What a disaster that has been. Can't get them working at all. Took a 500mile round trip to see Stan from the forum. Incredible help and shed some light on the vans history. It's a story for another day but we are still working to try and resolve the issue and will of course keep people updated.
Carpeted the rear of the van also not actually as hard as I thought it might be. Just takes some time and patience.
Excuse the mess in the back. It is a working van haha.
Next thing was getting the van lowered. Decided to do it in the in laws driveway on axle stands. TERRIBLE idea. Van is 12 year old and everything was seized on. Eventually got the rear sorted and along with some new alloys it's sitting nice at the back.
Van is in the garage tomorrow to get front done so will post better pictures when it's done.
Currently trying to pick up a Touran front bumper at the right price.
Please note that these pictures are taken over a 2 month period this is just the first chance I have had to post them all up with a write up. Progress will be a little slower from here on in but eventually this van will be how I want it.
Any input and comments are appreciated.

Re: My 2nd White Caddy Project
Out with the old and in with the new. Straight swap love quick and easy mods very pleased with this one as my old steering wheel was knackered.
Will spend tomorrow cleaning the interior. Some new carpets to go in too.

Re: My 2nd White Caddy Project
Another night spent resolving issues. Electric windows would not work no matter what "Stan" from the forum or myself tried. So much money and time went into these electric windows.
I mainly went down the electric rougher to get shot of the old light grey door cards. But after spending so much money I had to give up. I needed working windows.
£30 later I'm nearly there after picking these FL door cards up in great condition and on the darker grey. Very happy.
I do need a new passenger side window crank shaft pictures below so if anyone has one after an electric window conversion please get it touch.

Looks spot on. Such a different look when lowered.
Also be interested to know about the quality of the JOM coilovers.

As for the guys asking about suspension. So far so good. Still can go lower on the rear and a lot lower on the front.
Handling is much better now and overall a very comfortable ride on most roads. Country lanes can be a little bumpy.

Re: My 2nd White Caddy Project
This little beauty arrived today. Picked it up very cheap. Will prep and paint myself over the next few weekends.
Can't wait to fit it and give the van a new look.

Great thread so far, I'd be interested in what products you use to prep and paint your bumper as I'm thinking of doing the same as I can't afford to buy a bumper and pay to have it painted so have been putting it off, so I will be watching with interest!

Re: My 2nd White Caddy Project
Thanks appreciate that. Will keep you updated over the next week or so with the bumper. Has a huge crack in it that a major repair but will document all of it.Dan21 wrote:Great thread so far, I'd be interested in what products you use to prep and paint your bumper as I'm thinking of doing the same as I can't afford to buy a bumper and pay to have it painted so have been putting it off, so I will be watching with interest!
