My first caddy and VW - TANGOED MTB build

Post by tangoed-caddy »

So have been a member now for few months so thought would make a build thread.
So bought the caddy with bit already done and thought nothing needed doing until I joined here and very quickly got a list of things I want to do Image

So this is the van when I picked it up.

List of mods when I bought it was....
- golf r alloys
- rear spoiler
- front splitter
- leather seats
- painted black roof/bonnet/bumper
- colour coded
- chrome side bars
- roof bars
- touch screen radio

So first mod was to start with the sound deadening on the walls and doors.
Then first sticker for the rear, has to be done so got a chrome guy martin one Image
Then after first trip to Degla I order front mud guards after having mud all up the side of the van with the wide alloys fitted......ImageImageImage

Once done that I started with the insulation, just used recycled plastic from B&Q. Also improves sound deadening a bit, and covered it all with reflective bubble wrap and silver tape to keep it all tidy.
Then started the long job of machine polishing, gard it takes a long time!
Using meguirs 105 then 105 and sealed with fusso 99.ImageImageImage

Next few mods were fitting reversing camera and have and still do hate automotive electrics.
Then some nice pressed plates to make front and back look nicer.
Then time for first night in it. Bit uncomfortable beeing over 6ft and sleeping in swb caddy with bulkhead still in place was more than warm enough, and the blackout window cover works great if anyone is after one.ImageImageImage

Done few little things for the interior like the chrome heater dials, and chrome gear stick. Also fitted some carpets for the front with orange edges to blend in with the outside.
Also made a new ceiling out of ply as old one was ruined, don't have a picture of this though.Image

Any pictures of how you've installed the reversing camera? I'm about to install mine, always good to see how others have done the job ;)

Very nice looking van!

Haven't got any in detail pictures sorry.
But I fed a live 12v feed from fuse box to the left side of van and fitted a relay in that area.
Once got head around it then was easy enough, and watched few videos on yt.

So made cardboard cutout to make a ply cover for the top half of the side door, as mine didn't have it for some reason.

Then time to strip everything from the rear to start more sound deadening of the roof and the floor, has made a huge difference. Also added some more insulation on the roof so think that helps, and to keep it all tidy put silver bubble wrap over it all.

So made myself a new floor as old one looks like it's had oil spilt on it and had no strength in it and was swelling. So new one is made with 12mm hard ply.

Then have fitted two thru axle mounts to the front as can drill straight through and bolt it tight behind the passenger seat.

Now can easily fit two bikes in and still have over half the van spare.

And fitting the bikes in noticed on my bike now have a huge dint in my downtube from BPW Image

Next is to cut down the bulkhead to fill in the gaps.ImageImageImageImageImage

Awesome, looks ace mate! Did you use sea suckers, or another type of fork mount?. Measured my XL Bronson in my mates caddy last night to make sure it fits before I sell the T5!.

I use one of the go outdoors slumber folding bed at present, with a single slim mattress on top, plenty space below for bike washer, storage boxes etc, and comfy as hell!. Only 35 quid too, and handy if ye don't want a permanently fitted bed for the occasional van duties.
