Pr3stige Tinting,Demo show van

Post by pr3stigetinting »

Hi folks thought I would start my own build thread for my van.
Ive ran a Vauxhall Astra 1.9 for the last year for my business, I do Window Tinting/Vinyl Wrapping & Detailing, I had wrapped my previous astra in 3m atomic teal, the astra was just a starting car to get the business on its feet but it certainly wasn't ideal when it comes to carrying rolls of vinyl or pieces of glass about so finally it was the right time to get a van. Ive been after a caddy van for a while a now but I just couldn't justify it last year.

So I went hunting about I had a few key things it needed to have, Ideally I wanted a GTE caddy but at the time they didn't have any without Vat so i had to walk away.
After some searching online I came across Tameside Van Centre in Manchester, they had a few vans in that fitted my budget and had base mods covered so a deal was made and I flew down from aberdeen a few days later. It didn't start off well with no-one picking me up from the airport for 3 hours and arriving to find the van sitting in a bodyshop carpark filthy no fuel etc :| I should have just walked away but thought no its a good starting point so I took the plunge done the paperwork and drove it home.

The only issue with the van was the wind has caught the drivers door sometime in the past and took it round off the wing so this needs repaired and a new lower hinge fitted so it is off to the body shop next week. other than that 3 days of cleaning the van up and its looking better now and Im chuffed to bits with it and really enjoy driving it amazed with the 600miles to a tank and loads of power for a little 1.6.

So when I bought the van Tameside had fitted

19" Stuttgart Wheels on 235's
KW Coilovers & Axle Flip Kit
Roof Rails
Colour Coded bumpers handles bump strips and Mirrors
Remap to 140
A Sat-Nav Blueetooth Unit
Aftermarket vw rep spoiler
EGR Blank

Ive done the following so far in the last week

Raised the rear up a tad until I get time to fit centralising plates as I was having some rubbing issues on the front of the rear passenger arch liner. Hoping to put it down lower in a few weeks again
Lowered the front down 20mm to make the van sit more equal
Wrapped the VW badges in Black Rose Vinyl
Fitted a set of Carpet floor Mats to the inside
Wrapped the Centre Console In Metallic Black Vinyl
Removed the White Vinyl Privacy Screens that were on the rear windows and Tinted them in 5% Film
5% Sunstrip
Painted the Callipers in a Graphite Grey 2k Paint
Fitted a new set of Genuine VW Mudflaps front and rear
Installed Paint Protection Film on the bonnet.
Fixed the satnav (who ever fitted it forgot to plug in the antenna)
Moved the Microphone for the bluetooth so I can be heard now haha
Tinted the TailLights in a Solid film (its very light and subtle)
Led DRL & Numberplate Lights
Enabled Staging/Needle Sweep on VCDS

Plan to use it for the Shows and just be a Demo of the services I offer.

Plans for the future are..

Get my private plate on and remove that Wolsburg edition surrounds when the V5 comes back
Need to sticker it up
Paint Correction (badly needs it, Just need to find a spare couple of days to do it)
The wheels are not to my taste I think they are growing on me but just don't think they work with the look I'm going for on the van so Ill put them up for a swap for another set of 19s I think.
Golf GTI seats
Carpet the rear with some downlights in the roof
Will be giving the van a colour change once I decide on just what colour to pick for it... its a tricky one. don't think this will happen until after the summer once my busy period slows down.
Top and bottom grills on the bumper will be getting painted gloss black next week
Ill be retrofitting Foglights and removing the colour coded foglight blanks that are on at the moment.
Will be splitting the headlights next month and retrofitting some Projectors in there to run a nice factory style xenon kit
Its booked in on tuesday to get a R32 centre Exit made up
New steering wheel at some point

Will do bits and pieces when money and time allows but will update the page regularly :)

thanks

Great start to your build Richard and you've already got a few nice bits and a few more planned - along the same lines as my plans (but you've already got a few I'm still waiting to sort 8) )

I'm not sure on the wheels either but at least they're abit different :D

Thanks mate, I agree I'm not a huge fan of them, Would rather some Bolas or Some Judd 19s but there not cheap so Ill have to save up and sell these ones, Time will tell.

little Update

So the van went into he bodyshop to get a few bits tidied up and at the same time I got the top and bottom grills plus the fog light blanks painted in gloss black. Also got the number plate drill holes filled in to put my short private plate on once the V5 is through.

Finally got some time to fit my TRC front splitter on also.

Also had some time to fit the Axle Centralisation plates on the rear, This has fairly sorted it out now.

Axle still sits 10mm more over to the passenger side so I might have to address this in the future as I would like to go lower on the rear at some point.

Still trying to figure out Sign Writing ideas for the van..

Few more things to come when I have some spare time and money haha

Where did you get centre caps for those alloys? I have same ones, would like something for the centre.

They are stuttgart centre caps, couldn't tell you where the guy got them from, they were on the van when I bought it.

Its been a while since I've updated the build of my van a few changes since then though..

Firstly I wrapped the roof in 3m Gloss Black mainly to help prevent the stone chips plus it gives the van a little image change.

also I soundproofed the back of the van insulated it and carpeted in black, still to finish it off when I get time but its a good start!

And last but not least I've been working on getting my Recaro seats in the front.. so with some 30mm box section cut to size drilled and welded onto the caddy runners and making up a seat belt frame to bolt it to I finally have them in and i think they are my favourite thing about the van its totally changed the driving position for me lowering the seat a few inches and giving me more support ideal!

I have decided against wrapping the van as I just don't have the spare time to wrap it and I can't turn away business from my own customers so Im going to send the van away in January for a respray, colour wise not a clue at the moment but something different and something to help promote the business :)
