Grey Caddy Improvements.

Post by PaulC61 »

First off thanks to all of you who posted their photos and ideas on here. A number of them have been borrowed.

This is my 2015 Caddy Maxi Kombi 1.6 TDI in Natural Grey. It will be used as an all round vehicle for holidays, mountain bike lugger, shopping etc.

The upgrades I want to do are :- back end ply lined, led lights in back, power sockets in back, parking sensors, change head unit, cruise control and hopefully some alloys. All to be done in the next couple of weeks before a trip to wales to mountain bike. Not as radical as some conversions but done to suit my current needs.

And so it begins
Image

Slightly gutted to be covering up the inside as it is more or less immaculate compared to some vans I've had.
Image

Amazing how much rubbish was under the rear mat. quick hoover and a wash, all sorted.

Does anybody know where the wheel brace is located. I can see the jack fixed to the side of the van but brace is not obvious.

Should be in the compartment above the seats. Good look with your mods.

Thanks for that Alan. It was in fact in one of the under floor compartments, it was just that some idiot had covered them up with a mat and then forgot about them :( .

Van back now for a few days. Back end soundproofed, ply lined and carpeted. 99% happy with the work but I can see my altering the 2 boxes over the wheel arches to give a bit more storage space. Head unit fitted and working ok.

Alloys read for tyres and fitting tomorrow.

Cruise control is being fitted on Monday. Defo need that before driving to Wales in a few weeks.

Led lights and power sockets in the rear going in on Tuesday.

Mud flaps ordered. Still looking for a load liner to go in the back similar to the Caddy Life one where it goes under the rear seats.

Ply lines and carpeted back. Bit quieter on the roads and makes it feel a bit less like a van.

Head unit in and working. Nothing fancy but does the job. Just got to get the DIS to show the Navigation bit.

Alloys read for tyres and fitting tomorrow. Then the plan is to use them in silver for the moment but maybe change the colour to suit the Natural Grey.

This afternoons project in between the rainstorms, the bike rack. The basic principle works but I may have to build my own rack to suit the fixing points.

Rack in place to suit current fixing points.
Image

Fixing straps to hold rack down to rear seat lug and frame. Not entirely happy with the straps but it is a starting point. Also the straps allow a tiny amount of lateral movement.
Image

Bike in rack. Just a tad to long to close the tailgate.

You've been busy there lad, you'll be fair chuffed with how it's went in a relatively short space of time. What biking are you doing in Wales, see crossover tyres on the bike there?

Thanks Geebs. Most of the main work I want done will be completed by the end of the week then not so much time on the internet buying stuff :D .

This time we are staying near Aber. So hopefully biking in and around Snowdonia. Got a mate who lives in Mold so he is sorting some rides out.

The tyres are Schwalbe Big Apple. Pretty impressed with them so far. Only on there as I've been around the lanes of Norfolk plus along a disused railway line. Also a bit of urban riding in and around Norwich. They will get changed out for another set of more suitable tyres when I get to Wales.

I really like your wheels. Can you tell me where you got them from? And the size. TIA. Lou

Thanks Lou, they are 16" Trondheim alloys (16" 6.5j 48et). Got them off eBay from Germany, really quick delivery. These ones only have a few marks on them so paid a bit more for them. Put some 205/55/16 Good Year tyres put on today at £62 a corner. Nothing to drastic as I do use bumpy roads, car parks etc.

Just got to straighten the centre caps up again and get some black caps for the wheels bolts. The list is never ending.

How easy is the cruise control to do? Did you do it yourself?

I purchased the cruise control steering wheel unit and a local Vdub specialist fitted and coded it. Guess you could do it yourself but you would need to do the coding. For a £100 I would rather the specialist did it, plus they got the navigation bit to show on the DIS after the new head unit was fitted.
