** Limbo's Maxi build! **

Post by Limbo118118 »

Hello.

Just bought my first caddy maxi 2011 ex BG van last week....

Milage 34k...

Bought it with following just been done :-
- coilovers
- wheels
- roof bars
- bottom bars
- colour coded bumpers / mirrors
- wind-deflectors

The plan is to plyline / carpet rear with some Leds.
Possibly fit new front seats..
Fit rear bench which can be easily removable.

Van is used as a daily for work an back roughly 50miles a day

And weekends away for mtb / wakeboarding / car events.

Hopefully double airbed will fit in the rear nicely!

So far ive done rear number plate leds but now have a light on the dash so if anyone knows how to code it out please help! I do have vagcom but not that clued up on it!

And now bonnet cable has broke but garage are fixing that!

Thanks..

**update**

Went to Campermart today in telford. Was a good show! Similar setup to ultimatedubs!

Got some good bargins....i think... 😂

6 leds for rear build all controlled via remote can set brightness and other little features too. Thinking of putting 4 in the roof and 1 at each side door should look quite cool. £20

Also got 10m of stretch black carpet and 10 cans of spray glue for £100

The guy has a comapany doing camper builds up in york and gave me his business card as i quite liked the floor carpet he had but could get from else where too i think. Was grey/white thick with foam underneath perfect for putting bikes on as easily washable.

Also got 2 side net holders, think im going to mount them by rear door they were £6

Not a bad day!

Also seen a nice caddy there which had re-trimmed the whole interior which gave me some good ideas! Pics tio follow!......

Can I ask about the sun visors how did you do that. How did you trim around the mirrors you have any close ups. Is it alcantara on them.

The photo in the thread is a caddy van from the show. I loved the interior and plan on doing similar. It was this 4 way strech carpet on head lining etc and then sin visors an other bits in alacatara looked very nice. Not sure how he did it but i cant see it being to hard!

Nice mate, i really like that :)

You have pretty much already completed many things on my to do list.

Can i ask if that is just the one piece moulded bumper than has been painted or the Touran version with removable grills? just curious as you have managed to get the grills painted different to the main bumper

Thanks fella.

All the colour coding was already done when i purchased it. But was nothing i wasnt planning to do anyways just this van worked out a good deal!

Front bumper is standard. From speaking to the fella i got it off it sounds like it was just sent to the body shop to get all the bits sprayed,
and from close inspection it looks like the front bumper was just taped up then sprayed isnt anything special.

Started carpeting today. Trying to make the carpet go as far as possible so cutting very careful.

B n q trip supplied rest of the goodies i needed. All in so far rear build supplies have cost about £250 which i dont think is bad for complete rear build but i do need flooring yet so say £300 ish for back finished.

Little tips i found today were..
Spray glue leave for a minute before sticking carpet/wood together as it needs to go tacky first... also fit clips first into wood then glue and carpet. More to follow tommorow!...

**UPDATE**

- So spend all of today (sunday) wiring and carpeting the van!. With alot of help from my friend who has done his own t5 so had hands on experience!...

Things i found was...

- knife blades go blunt very quickly so get some spares!!
- all wiring was routed first and colour coded so i know afterwards what does what! Led's and rear 12v supply for usb etc..
- spray glue is a knightmare to get off if you over spray on abit which doesnt need it!!
-all cuts were very percise to try and get joints to look seemless! :)

So far i have used 5 cans of spray glue and about 7 metres of stretch carpet!

We have been cutting very percise to not waste any! Hopefully i will have enough for the front cab too!!

I took out the 3 roof bungs from old BG ariels and rust treated and silicone back in to seal properly as previous owner didnt..

Jobs left....

- upper door panels and side panels to be cut out or plyboard - then carpeted.
- hidden tree clips to be fitted to trim panels...when they arrive off ebay!
- foam/foil insulation to be fitted once arrived from ebay!
- once fully insulated and panels are up then led's will be put in and wired up! I have pre cut x4 in the roof and x2 in the lower side panels. Also have little led strip light for back door.
- i have made little side cubby shelfs were the rear arches are out of plyboard so need to stick them on hopefully turn out ok!

Pictures to follow!....
