CALAMITY'S CADDY BUILD

Post by Calamity Kev »

Well, after much deliberation about how far i'm gonna take this build and many hours reading countless internet posts about insulation for which there doesn't appear to a definite answer on the best approach, I finally thought (OOOh look at me, I can curse) it, time to ram on!

So decided to rip out the existing ply and give a the rear a good clean out and start with some soundproofing, insulating the floor and fitting a plastic load liner. Also part removed the bulkhead, i'm thinking put some kind hatch / window in it and then refit as the open strut it leaves behind is ghastly!

FYI
Sound deadening with 2mm Silent Coat
Floor covered with Dodo 6mm super liner
then topped with Guardliner VW caddy Mk4 PVC loadliner

PICS TO FOLLOW.....

Looking good. What you planning for the base? Sound deadening and insulation as well?

I put a layer of Dodo superliner down and fitted a PVC liner on top (pictured) instead of ply. I like the idea of PVC - easy to clean the leftovers from muddy bikes. It's custom ditting but about 10-15mm short at the rear end so annoyingly leaves a gap. Need to think of a solution to neaten it up.

How is the fit and quality of Guardliner? Is it more like rubber or plastic and how thick is it? Cheers

Overall not impressed to the point i'm thinking of changing it and making a custom rubber floor instead.

Firstly its short by 10mm at the rear. Not great when getting wet and muddy bike gear in and out.

Secondly, its smooth so everything slides around like mad. I slept in it the other night on a metal legged camping bed and every time I moved it shifted along the floor and was a struggle to get up from!

Plasticky and about 3mm.

£120 from Poland :(

Thanks for reply. I was considering it for my swb caddy for the same reason, but seems it's not good enough... wondering if that could be a cheap copy (actually not so cheap)?
