2011 Caddy panel van - Caddy Clubsport Project

After many months of searching, I've found my first Caddy! Bought on eBay after various messages back and forth and requests for more photos. Top lad to deal with and I'm collecting next week from Northumberland. It's a 2011 on 108k so not mental like most seemed to be. 1.6 remapped by GAD Tuning to claimed 150hp (unsure how likely that figure actually is...!) so plenty quick enough but no real worry as its going to be a daily and keep my M3 for the fun stuff.

It's lowered on coilovers and axle flip kit of unknown brand for now. Colour coded bumpers were a must as I can't stand the look of the gimp face most have  . Wheels are what I believe to be Rota D154s but plan is to eventually change these for Golf R/GTI Clubsport Pretorias.

Only things needing done are replace the seats with MK5/6/7 GTIs (as the standard ones have tears in the bolsters) and a timing belt as it's overdue. Other than that its a clean van throughout as its been owned by two valeting companies.

Long term plan is to make this a MK7 GTI Clubsport inspired Caddy. So graft in the bumpers front and rear, do something with the rear door spoiler and GTI bits throughout interior. Needs a better head unit and maybe add in a reversing camera as I've become far too used to having one on my Velar and I'm now lazy. Will sound deaden, line and carpet the rear too.

Pics as it stands:

Eventual plan (without MK4 front):

Looks decent as it is, improvements can always be made though.
looking at yours it's plain to see why so many are face-lifted.

Dont expect a flurry of updates in no time. I already have a classic Mini im getting back on the road again, an E46 M3 which loves to create expensive problems and now this. Amazingly the most reliable car I own is a Range Rover and its getting sold at only 6 months old!

Exactly that. This will do for now and can only get better from here on out too. That was one of my few stipulations, the van had to be a facelift as I don't like pre-facelifts as they look incredibly dated now.

Went to pick this up today with my dad for some company and a second set of eyes before paying.

Just as described, incredibly clean throughout. You'd never be able to tell it's done 108k it's that well presented. Seller was the son of a Porsche specialist in Newcastle and couldn't have been nicer if he tried.

The front grilles have been painted gloss black and subsequently ceramic coated along with the rest of the exterior by the previous detailing company owners.

Quick double check test drive, money transferred and away up the road again.

Pulls really strong with the remap. Really efficient (280 miles to 1/4 of a tank!) and surprisingly quiet. Coilovers are actually really smooth for being a cheap make and there's no noises from anywhere on the thing.

Back home again and over the moon. Looking forward to modding it as the months go by

I think I have a problem... Velar, Abarth, M3, Mini in the garage and now a Caddy

The wheels you have on there now look great (in fact the whole car looks very nice) but the wheels are really quite unique.
Having the Dutch Rota importer about 4 miles away from here makes me think a wheeel upgrade is going to be needed (Mine is bone stock, atm)

I dont think I would have chosen them but I do like them. Suit the van well.

So I made a stupid mistake.....parked up the van round the back of my work. Jumped out, walked away and van rolled into a Discovery 4! Disco is totally fine and small scratch polished out. Same cant be said for the Caddy! I find its better if you apply the handbrake but having grown so used to auto handbrakes on the Velar and everything I drive at work my brain went into auto pilot. Booked in to get don whilst Im on a training course later this week in Birmingham so it will be back to better than ever once I'm back!

All fixed :)

Whoever painted it before didn't smooth off the textured plastics and just used loads of filler primer instead. Got it fully stripped back, texture removed and properly prepped and painted. All good again!

Fitted a new head unit, wheel and gearknob thanks to my friend/colleague breaking her MK5 GTI to put the engine in to her MK4! Looks much better. Just need to call VW in the morning to get the code for the radio as she didnt have the owners manuals etc with the car. Radio also needs GPS aerial connector too which sadly was already removed from the donor car.

Going to try and replace the GTI badge on the wheel with a Caddy one if I can find someone to make me up a custom domed gel sticker.

Had to remove the gear gaitor from the Golf base and rebond to the Caddy base. Two part epoxy so shouldn't budge for years!

Radio works and updates the dash well, just a shame I will need to wait for the GPS loom.
