caddy sdi's, talk to me?

Post by spam242 »

I'm looking at buying a caddy but I have a small budget of around £3500 and for that its a struggle to get decent tdi so I was wondering what the sdi's are like? I've heard they are slow but are they really as bad as a lot of people say?

I've got a SDI that i'm selling just now. I bought it was my first ever van and like yourself was struggling to find a decent TDi around the 4/4.5k mark that didn't have 150k + on the clocks.

I don't actually think the SDI is as bad as folk make out, unless you are pulling alot of gear in the back of it. Most of the stuff I carried was light enough. The only time i really feel its a bit underpowered is on the motorway when you start to do 65+

Also, SDI has less to go wrong with it. The TDI's will have the standard DMF, EGR Valves, Turbos and injectors that go tits up with a heavy amount of miles on the vehicle.

I have a sdi mate and i dont have any faults with it.I was asking the same question when i was buying a caddy.I wanted a tdi but saw a sdi and had a go in it and it does us fine.If you want speed then get a tdi but our sdi is good on fuel and it gets us up and down the motorway to shows no problem.Have a go in one and see if it suits you as everybody is different.Good luck :P

I got a sdi yes it feels under powered and you have to plan overtaking in advance, but I run it to and from work (105 miles) on the A12 and it will sit at 70-75 comfortably and had it up to 90 in places but it doesn't like it that much but it cheap to run

ive just bought an sdi, and i was like hmmmmm all these people saying oh stay away,
so i drove it home after buying it, and not a word of a lie I was in the outside lane doing 80mph most of the way home, and it wasnt ringing its neck to much,, but 70mph its happy at that, but what more do you want out a of a van..
and a good test was a good steep hill by my house and it did 60 to 65 mph up it with the foot nailed to the floor...
just think what you want out of your caddy, and then you have your answer.

Depends what you want really.

Remember it's a van you're driving, even if it is a TDi.

I've had my SDI nearly 4 years now and it's very rare for me to wish it was faster. I can still break every speed limit in the land (with a long enough run up)

45+mpg on a long run is handy too. ;)

My Sdi isn't too bad. Fitted a stainless exhaust which helps it rev. Given time I've seen 100 but really over revving
Helps as I use unleaded at 5% mix cheaper than the Millers cetane additive
Better to have an Sdi than none at all
