Climatic air con on the blink.

Post by Nick4d »

When I bought my caddy last year, It was blessed with air con which at the minute seems to not be blowing cold. The gas is topped up I had it checked. What else should I check. Hopefully its not the pump.. thanks in advance folks.....

Could be a leak any where in the system or the failure of a part, dryer etc..

Get it to an aircon specialist, they will top it up and inject a dye into the system and any leaks can be seen with an ultra violet lamp (black light).

Takes about 20 minutes and if no leaks can be found they normally ask you to drive it for a couple of days then return for a re check.

VW compressors are said to be lifed at about 500,000miles.

BTW have you replaced the pollen filter

Thanks for reply mate. I took it to an air con specialist and they said there is the right amount of gas in the system. Its just stopped working without warning. Pretty sure there is no gas leaks... weird....

Is the compressor running? The pulley might have detached from the shaft.

Surely when the gased it they would of run the engine with climate on when fully gassed ..with the machine still attached you would tell if the compressor was working from the gauges as you would see the pressure rise and fall as clutch comes in and out ...have you scaned van with vagcom as if it's switched itself off for safety then it will throw up a fault code .. sometimes the high pressure switch breaks and over pressurises and you loose a bit of gas causing system shut down and you top up gas as see it is low ...I would scan first and go from there .. it's not a complecated system tbh ...

I will take it to a specialist then.. its gassed up so must be a system fault somewhere. Thanks for the help though peeps will follow this up.

Was that at a specialist? Seems a bit steep to plug it into vagcom. Did they even lift the bonnet to check for leaks etc? As a matter of interest, I would check the pollen filter actually WAS changed at the service. Its simple enough to look for yourself and if its covered in muck, will definitely not be helping. There are 2 versions as well, and the premium one is better and not much more expensive, but service dept have been known to put the cheap one in.
