Handbrake warning light

Post by acherrystone »

Just after I start up and drive away, my handbrake warning light flashes for a short while and I get three loud pings.

The light then goes out but returns every few minutes, with the three pings, before stopping altogether.

But sometimes it doesn't do either flashing or pinging.

I am 100% certain that the handbrake is off.

Can anyone please advise me?

Thanks.

Handbrake warning light

The handbrake switch is located under the lever. It's probably come loose or faulty I would imagine.
You will have to remove the console to check or peek through the gaps under

EDIT
It will look something like this:

It really is that simple?

I have been worried sick, I thought it was going to be indicative of a new engine.

I could kiss you. ;)

The switch makes the light go on/off etc
Perhaps it's just slightly displaced as if it was completely off the light would stay all the time.

I got the switch out ok. I have oiled it and the contacts and it is still messing about, so I have ordered a replacement.

I didn't need to remove the console. I took out the drivers seat, and the two bolts at the back of the console, then held it up, and wiggled out the switch with a screwdriver.

Hopefully, replacement will be a reverse. :)

Oh feck!

Is it a fl caddy?
The switch is controlling the light on dash. One wire is ground the other goes into clocks. Have you done any modifications prior to the first occurance?
Unless the wire is clipped somewhere??
The wire for connection in instrument cluster is T32/25 (brown/yellow)
I'm sorry I can't be any more help.

I can't remember, does this light also indicate low brake fluid too?

Yes, it does, and the light has now gone out, after I topped it up.....

I now have to check out the brake pads, hopefully, they are well worn. That is a cheaper repair than finding and repairing a leak.

On the positive side, both brake and clutch pedal feel firm.
