More likely the brake light switch gone faulty. It happened to my golf before and has been one of the common issues with VWs.

Replace the switch. Heard of that issue once before a customers battery kept draining overnight tech carried out all tests couldn't find a thing wrong
Then While it was sitting in the workshop locked up bang out of nowhere brake lights turned on.
Lucky find!!!

Have u fitted it correctly, once old one removed, press pedal right down, insert new switch but don't turn it until u let pedal back up, also make sure it's fully turned clockwise
