Battery Upgrade
Afternoon all,
Newbie to the forum here (not a newbie to a Caddy).
I've had mine since 2013, it's a 2.0 TDI Highline 140 and the battery is on its way out. Looking to upgrade to something much heavier duty as I'm running two blackvue cameras plus heated seats etc so it does use some juice.
A couple of questions:
1) What's the biggest capacity battery I can fit?
The recommended units for this vehicle go upto 77Ah but I was looking at more like an 85Ah. However, an 85Ah battery will be bigger in terms of length.
2) Can I fit a larger sized battery in place, currently have a soft cover over the existing one?
Thanks in advance!
Alex

Re: Battery Upgrade
Hi Alex,
I have a 096 battery in my Caddy and it fits the tray but not the soft cover.
I have fitted the ridgid battery box found on the earlier Caddys and golfs.

I didn't pay next or near that price for it but that'll give you an idea.

Re: Battery Upgrade
Thanks for the links, the 30% off Euro Crap Parts code isn't worth using in this case anyway as you can find that Bosch battery available elsewhere for £90.00 delivered.
Not had a car battery from Duracell before, any feedback on these?

Re: Battery Upgrade
Yep, ECP are expensive for the battery but it was the only place I could think of for an online link.
Try your local motor factors, they'll likely be a bit less than the delivered price you got.

If you really want something that will start the arc Royal.... I'm running one of these...

But check dimension etc for your fit as my battery isn't in the standard location.

Re: Battery Upgrade
I'm a big fan of split charge systems, two batteries, one for cranking the other for leisure.

Re: Battery Upgrade
simon i dont see the point in having a battery like that its still only 70ah, it will only produce 70amps for an hour or 1 amp for 70hours.
unless it has a built in cap or similar (mine is 700cca and 70ah)
cheaper to get two decent batteries using a split charge relay with a bypass incase you need to jump start it

That's fine - we all get to make choices in life
I like the deep discharge characteristics as I hardly ever use the van.

Re: Battery Upgrade
you could always fit another one in the foot well if you want a big battery.
two 70ah batteries will be the equivalent of a 140ah battery.
im going to have an aux heater installed and eventually ill put another battery in, probably a leisure battery
