Hi everyone
I have a 2013 1.6tdi DSG problem which i could do with some advice on.
I only do 2 - 3k miles per year in it as i am disabled so cannot drive long distances. Fuel economy has not impressed me since owning it, I get around 40mpg.
VW have previously tried to contact me to have an emissions recall done but due to health issues my priorities have been elsewhere over the last year.
Last week, while driving, the engine management light came on and then did not reoccur until yesterday. We went to our local VW specialist who hooked up the laptop and said it was EGR - insufficient flow.
They quoted me £750 to replace the EGR and cooler, which sounded a lot. Can anyone please suggest what I should do? And would the emissions update help?
Many thanks
Roy

As far as I understand it, if you'd had the emmisions fix done before your EGR went bad, then VW would have covered the costs for it and certain other components (injectors) which breaks for a 2 year period after the fix. Unfortunately if you haven't had it done then you're going to need to swallow the cost of the repair yourself.

If I remember correctly the dealer egrs are about £500 for the part. You can get aftermarket and remanufactured starting at £100. The job of changing isn’t a very pleasant one.
