Caddy day van/workhorse project

Post by Johnaldridge101 »

Hi guys, so this is my van, picked it up today and chuffed to bits with it, it's in fair condition for a panel van and I got it for a bargain price.

First on the to do list will be a full service, MOT states brakes wearing thin as an advisory, so I'll give them a going over too.

I'll get some better pics up soon, (it looks pretty much the same as every other caddy on the road)

It may look the same as every other caddy on the road but rather it looks like a caddy than any other van. ;)

Very true, I've had a couple of other vans that I pretty much just abused!
Can't wait to get this caddy nice and tidy though.

Collected the parts needed to install the internal rear door handle from TPS today.
Took all of 5 minutes to fit!Image

Removed the parrot Bluetooth adaptor as I'll be upgrading the radio in the near future.

Picked up a 2003 midline cluster from a touran, also the steering wheel, SWCM and both stalks so I can have cruise control.

The van is 2010 and I have read that the immobilizer is tricky to get around without specialist software, I assume it's the dealer level ODIS?

Reading the other thread Doc is the go to man to sort this out, but I cannot PM yet, so I am hoping you see this Doc ImageImage

I see ya.
To be honest, fitting a 2003 cluster in a 2010 is a bit of a downgrade, even if it is a midline cluster with trip computer and temperature gauge. VW started using a more advanced immobiliser system around 2007 and to fit the older immobiliser on a newer car may not work, I've never tried.
There are lots of full display highline clusters of the newer type on eBay for not much money.
I can have a go at fitting that one you have but can't promise it'll work.

Thanks Doc
So any post 2007 touran cluster would be a better bet? With minimal immob issues.

Touran, golf, Scirocco, Jetta, Tiguan, any one of those 2007-2010 would be better than fitting a 2003 cluster.
Look for one ending 974.

Just ordered a set of golf 974 clocks, £24 posted! Just hope they function properly.

I'll have to look up how to swap the fronts over, so the clock can be set with the little push sticks, even though they can be set with the stalks, I'd like them to be a 100% proper job.

If you want the twist stick to work you have to solder on two tactile right angle switches under the RPM dial.

Thanks Doc, once the clocks get here, I'll open them up and have a look see, it may be a job for the electronic gurus at work!
