VMAX Coilovers Failure

Post by CMC81 »

Hi All,

Had a knock from the front of my Van, found the spring had gone on the coilover.

I’ve heard so negative feedback recently regarding the VMAX and must admit now that I’ve changed the coilovers there seems to be a noticeable difference in spring quality.

Interested to hear other people’s experiences with VMAX and if there is a common failure with them.

I honestly couldn’t say as they were on the van when I bought it, I personally have put around 10-11k on them.

Just interested to hear others experience and opinions.

This is definitely not the first time I've seen a snapped V-Maxx spring and it is not just recently it has started.
They are what they are, a budget coilover, don't expect KW quality or longevity out of something 1/3 or the price.

Now that is dangerous, I've never seen a snapped shock before. You're lucky yours only caused a knocking.

I’ve said it before on these subjects. Factory springs break on a very regular basis on all cars. it’s not necessarily just a Vmaxx issue. The state of our pothole and speed bump ridden roads plus unsympathetic driving over those obstacles can be as much to blame for a failure as the manufacturer. I run vmaxx on my van for nearly 3 years without any issues at all. They looked like new when I removed them because I looked after them.

I have Vmaxx coilovers on my caddy.
I found them ok. The ride is good and what I expected. No problems with mine

I have had Vmaxx front strut do this on my old A3 a few years ago. I was selling the car soon after and just bought some Joms to get me around as they were cheap. People slag them off but I found them better, Just installed some on my Caddy the weekend just gone. More than happy with them the ride is surprisingly very comfy. Id never touch Vmaxx again.

In v Max’s defence the shock took 5 years and 85000 miles of abuse before snapping lol
