KLM colour HELP

Post by steviescaddy »

Wonder if any of you guys can help me, i took my touran bumper in to get painted a few days ago everything looked great, put it in the back of the van and took it home to fit, once it was fitted it looked a complete different shade of blue, now is there 2 different british gas blues, my van is a 2011 caddy maxi 61plate, was the previous year a different colour? Took it back to the garage with the bumper attached to the van and the guy did a paint test on the rest of the van with a machine and said its actually coming up with the best match being a mercedes blue? He told me he got in touch with tps and gave them my reg and it came back as KLM blue.

Ooooh, that's way off.
Do you know your paint code and the code they painted?
Your paint code is on the front page of your service book or on the sticker above the cabin fuse box.

2010 was darker and 2011 was lighter.

This is from my Spies Hecker mixing scheme. It’s the bottom one and there is only 1 shade.

Your problem is one of 2 things. Either your van has been resprayed a slightly different shade and the bumper is the correct colour to the paint code (highly unlikely) or your bodyshop (or whoever mixed their paint) have made a mistake.

Thank you for your help barbel330, I had my spoiler painted on the back of the van from a different garage which is a spot on match and he went off the LT5B. When you say its the bottom one on the chart, are they not all the same LT5B or am i just stupid haha

KLM colour HELP

Post by Barbel330 »

Yeah they look the same colour on the picture but that's not an accurate thing, it's just a rough example of the colour. The top 2 on the list I can't even mix them up. When I looked the mix ratio wasn't available.

The bottom one is the only one that refers to it being a VW colour too so that's the obvious one to go for.

That colour is not usually a problem colour. You can tell that because it only has 1 shade available. This usually means that it'll match edge to edge. If the paint manufacturers get queries from customers who are having troubles with colour matching a certain colour they develop alternative shades to solve the issue. VW Candy white for instance is well known for being a problem with matching......it subsequently has 10 variant shades  The reason some struggle with this colour is because they just automatically just mix up the prime shade, paint the vehicle or part, and expect it to match, which it won't :?

10 shades of Candy white

I appreciate all your help barbel330, the guy at the body shop said its not a problem repainting it, just hope he gets it right this time, so basically i should be telling him to use paint code LT5B.
