Aftermarket RCD330

Post by andyreflexsilver » Wed Apr 03, 2019 11:05 pm

Anybody bought an aftermarket eBay spec RCD330 with Apple CarPlay? Are they any good or just a waste? Had a cheap Chinese head unit off eBay before for any other vehicle a few years ago and had nothing but hassle with it. If anybody has had luck could they post a link to the one they got please? Thanks

I have the desay one which is for apple car play. I was in the same thing as you with a cheap Chinese one. It was ok but literally had no radio and the built in amp wasn’t all that loud. I can say the rcd330 plus wipes the floor with what I had and it’s so much better. The built in mic for calls works spot on as does apple car play and the radio works as it should too!

Plus I’m not getting the battery drain I was from the last one! You can hear the canbus switching it off with the ignition. You also get the temp and time in sink with the clocks!

I bought the same one as Mike a couple weeks back and fitted it on Monday night.

Really good features, makes the van look far more modern and all seems to be working so far

That’s great thanks for the replies, there’s a few Desay ones on ebay, some £159.99 some £219.99? Is it a case of they’re both fake and the more you pay the better the copy? Or is Desay a reputable company and they’re just 2 differently priced sellers? How much did you pay for yours mate?

I bought this one. Currently not for sale but they do re-list them. Meant to be oem, I just went with that. No duty and really well built!

I’m not to savvy on the specs tbh, just know you can’t update the desay one but in reality why would you want you??

Nice one thanks mate. Do you have to have your phone plugged in for CarPlay to connect or does it work over Bluetooth? Also I’ve installed a multi function steering wheel, and one thing I would like is to be able to change the track via Bluetooth audio with the steering wheel buttons, so I don’t have to use my phone, you don’t by any chance have a mfsw do you? And does this work? Cheers for the help mate

No sorry I don’t but do know it works with both the lead and Bluetooth. The lead will mirror your phone and give you the apple car play apps and Bluetooth you can send music/receive calls etc. Might be worth doing a bit of YouTube/google investing if you want to get the mfsw to work (if it’s possible) or someone on here maybe able to help.

I think I've seen some videos on YouTube with steering wheel controls still working with the 330 they are good units as they're still a straight swap like, I was having lots of trouble trying to my brake light reverse camera to work with an RNS 510.

On the rcd 330 an after market camera plugs straight in, the only down side is the were the camera plugs in is actually the pins for the glove box aux on the quad lock but there aux in on the front of the unit so only a problem if you like to hide the aux

Yeah I’ll do a bit of digging mate thanks, and yeah never thought of fitting a reverse camera but if it’s not a big job why not! Nah I don’t use aux anyway mate so that wouldn’t be a problem for me really. Thanks for the help guys

@bob86 that is a RNS310 or RNS315, I can never tell them apart from the front.

I got the rear brake light molded camera so only had to swap the light and trail the cable to the head unit and power it, like I said before goes straight in the RCD 330 instead of needed an adaptor box like I was trying first.
