Carpeting the rear of caddy

Post by Chrispope26197 »

Hi guys, in need of some knowledge!
I’m wanting to carpet out the back of my 07 caddy.

Does anyone have a list of things needed to do this?

I want to remove the bulkhead also but have seen that left over is a big gap from where the bulkhead meets the plastics in the cab. Any ideas on how to overcome?
I’m not wanting it to sleep in just to be nicer on the eye and a bit quieter. Thanks

I put a load of pics in here Re: bulkhead removal

although you can find trim to do it too, but it's about £170 new from TPS/VW I believe

as for carpet. most people go for a sound deadening (silent coat or dynamat) then a foam insulation (dodmat is supposed to be good) and then carpet some ply and put it over the top, then carpet any metal left exposed. some also fill voids with the plastic type loft insulation.

Okay great thanks for the info! Is there any cheaper alternative? How much silent coat would I need to buy roughly? Stuff ain’t cheap lol. Also would insulation need to be done? As I’m still using it as a work van, just wanting to nicer on the eye

I haven't insulated mine yet, but it is said to help with noise. If you feel it isn't worth doing, you can of course just carpet straight to the metal. but if you remove the bulkhead, it will be very noisy.
I bought this pack for my Maxi - https://www.deadening.co.uk/products/ca ... altion-kit

but if you aren't too worried about the insulation, you could just buy a pack of silent coat, then carpet over that. As to how much, I got a bulk pack in the above kit, so far I have used about 10 sheets or so. I have totally covered the arches, added to the side panel, and extra bits around various internal panels that ring when tapped. - still need to do the roof. and a little bit on the floor, but I don't think that will need much at all, and inside all the doors.
if you are a SWB, this might be a better size

www.vanliningcarpet.co.uk seem very well priced for carpet, that is who I am going to buy from when I'm ready.

Thanks again mate! Going to buy that sound deadening kit! Good price that.
How much carpet do you reckon I’d need?
Also with the sound deadening sheets, do you cover all bare metal?

Will I need to get metal tape to cover holes etc?

How do you fix the carpet panels without seeing fixings?

Sorry for all the questions want to go into it clued up haha

Duck tape will do to cover holes
as for has hiding the fixings are going to self taper the ply...!

Like I want to cover the bare metal, but also I have a ply lined van atm, so I have ply on the sides of my van. So I’d want to carpet and sound deaden/insulate as much as possible behind the ply, then carpet the existing ply that’s already there and put back on?

for hiding screws, just make a little cut in the carpet and do the screw up, it should disappear.

you don't need to silent coat every surface, just ones that sound tin like, the silent coat adds surface tension and turns a ring into a thud

then add the insulation more generally over the panels, especially outer skin type panels, like the sides. offer your ply up, and then carpet anything not covered by it directly with carpet, stuck on with contact adhesive. then carpet and attach the ply

10m of carpet is the usual reply, it's not that much more expensive than 8 and gives you wiggle room (10mx2m not 10m2)

To hide the fixings put a small cut in the carpet where the original holes are then insert screw then stick the carpet back Image
Here's mine Image

Appreciate all the help guys thanks a lot!
Buying some carpet off a guy I know and waiting for the sound deadening and insulation kit to come back in stock!

Any recommendations on lights for the roof head liner?

What do you guys use for the floor of the van? I’ve thought about maybe a type of wood laminate floor but not sure it would be very sturdy!
