Garage in Leicester?

Post by Pepsi »

Hello all

In a bit of a pickle at the minute with the van after she broke down with a blown turbo 4weeks ago.
Took it to the garage I use regularly to sort it out and they’ve managed to change the turbo and I got I mapped at the same time.

Took it home and found that it was very hesitant and jerked about a bit when accelerating slowly off the mark. It’s like there is now power.
Took it back and a they said it was a crank shaft sensor that was faulty. They changed it and still the same thing.
They then took off the map and it’s still the same.
They put it on their diagnostic machine and still coming up with the sensor.
They changed it twice once with another new sensor and one from VW. It’s still the same.

Vans been off the road for 4 weeks now and kinda need it back as work is getting difficult in the wife’s mini.

I was feted if there is a garage in Leicester area that people could recommend and/or if anyone could shed some light on what could be the issue.

Thanks in advance.

I think when you've tried two sensors and the fault remains, it's safe to say it's not the sensor that your problem.
At this point I'd be looking at wiring, where the wires run to the ECU from the sensor.
It's not uncommon for wires to chafe through each other where the engine loom turns 90° off the chassis leg, below the air filter box.

What is the fault code? Does it just show the crank fault?

@doc. They did say they checked all the wiring from the ecu.

I actually don’t think they did check it properly.
So I’ve divided to take it to someone else and from what they’ve said it’s something they have come across before so fingers crossed it could get sorted.

@dipster as far as I’m aware it is just the crankshaft sensor.

If it is crank then would check wiring across gearbox as prone to fail

Finally got a chance to check all the wiring last weekend and everything seems good no breaks or kinks.
When the fault gets cleared it works fine. Starts up and drives like it should. But then turn it off and on again same thing.

Taken it to another garage and they saud they will take a look.

If you can get it up to Nottingham, C&R would be my choice.

Cam sensor got changed for a genuine one and the misfire has gone, but the guy at the garage said that the vans got Diesel knock.
This is when the fuel to air mix is not right as far as he said.

Could this be down to the fact that the previous garage (who did the turbo change) didn’t do the turbo change correctly?
They are going to put the map back on and see if that makes a difference.
Or could it be something else. ?
