I am thinking of investing in one of the code readers, but so many around, what are people using and find best for VW for a reasonable price? thanks

Re: code reader
I use carista dongle and app, pretty decent. Really depends on what you are looking to do with it

Re: code reader
I just took delivery on VCDS from Ross-tech.
This is a PC tool and it is very powerful.
It does more than just read codes though.
Just another one for your list

Re: code reader
I believe so, never had to do it myself though. I can see long coding and make changes etcnodeward wrote:Can you code in injectors on obdeleven?

be aware that there are fake ones available at low price on eBay and such.
so check this list to be sure to get a genuine kit.
I got a Hex-v2.
Regarding Mac I can not say.

Re: code reader
I run a partitioned hard drive on the Mac, (actually an additional drive) and run windows 7 ultimate 32 bit, this allows you to use a multitude of other softwares.andyreflexsilver wrote:sttr, how much does it cost for VCDS? And does anybody know of it works on a MacBook? Cheers

The process is really simple to be honest, there is a load of info on google if you do chose to go this route.
What Mac do you have?

Re: code reader
I have a genuine VCDS.
I wouldn't have anything else. If you really want to fiddle things, there is piles of VCDS support from plenty of users, but more importantly - from the makers themselves. I brought it before I even started the R32 conversion of my Touran. It's been incredibly useful.
There are cheaper options, but there is very little real support for them - it really depends what you are after.
Be very careful of clones. There was a couple of instances on this forum of "clones" screwing up coding in modules.

Re: code reader
What I am after is more of something that can read a fault and give code as to what the problem is, rather than have something that could mess settings up if incorrectly used.

Re: code reader
Not used any of the others for VAG, but i'm using carista and it really simple and seems to work pretty fast (although I'm comparing that to carly for BMW).
It's already reset an airbag light after a steering wheel swap and reset limp home mode, so i'm very happy with it so far.
