Hello,
I'm about to embark on sound deadening and carpeting my SWB Mk4.
It is fitted with a good condition ply lining on sides, floor and the arch's are boxed in.
I'm being indecisive as to if I carpet the ply lining or remove it and carpet the metal work?
Carpeting the ply would seem a lot easier and seems a shame to get rid of the ply but most of the pictures I see of carpeted Caddy's seem to be directly onto the metal work.
If I do carpet the ply lining I would still carpet the exposed metalwork between the ply and headlining
Are there any pros or cons to doing it one way or the other?
Which do you think looks best?

Please forgive me if I've used an image of your van, these are just from a google image search...

I think it depends on what you plan to do. If it's just for carting stuff about then I would go with smooth walls. If you are making a camper the recessed window space makes it feel bigger and can be used for storage.

I like to be able to remove any panels easily if things need fixing.
How you do that is personal.

Re: Carpet metalwork or ply lining
Thanks for the replies.
I won't be using it for camping...... unless I have a barney with the misses
Essentially it will be used as a car, with the odd helping move things for friends etc.
I suppose I'm trying to make it as plush and quiet as possible....for a van.

If you want it more car like do away with the arch boxes and sound deaden and 4 way stretch over it looks better imo and will quiet it down no end

thanks for this, to be honest I hadn't thought about keeping the wall panels and doing away with the arch boxes but that might be a good halfway house hmmm...

Re: Carpet metalwork or ply lining
I’d carpet the ply lining, would be a hell of a lot easier and still look clean.
