My new daily hack and ongoing project :)

Post by Caddyrage »

Hi all.
My names lee and I live near huntingdon, cambs.
Now that I've sorted a few issues, I'll get on with starting a build thread.

Little intro, i'am not new to the caddy world. I've had a few mk1's(still got 1) and a couple of mk2's which I've tastefully modified.

Also had a fair few other dubs over the years.

Few pic's

My mk1 caddy that I used as my wedding car before stripping her down for a full resto

Mk2 caddy tdi I built up from bog standard which I sold a little while back

And now for me to start on a mk3 :D
I'd been searching for a while, whilst waiting to sell my T4 to fund it. This 1.9tdi came up 30 mins drive away below book value due to a running issue not long after having an MOT. Seller stated bottom end rattle which didn't put me off as I'd just rebuilt the ABF 16v engine in my mk1 golf.
I took a gamble on it anyway with having cash spare to put right. Only 82k on the clock aswell

First prob was it was massively down on power so it was a right slug driving home.
Second prob was whilst heading back(slowly), I had a blowout taking the whole tyre off the wheel, wtf lol.

Getting to know her better

After changing numerous parts over from my mates caddy, I decided to strip it down of the turbo which was a new replacement by the last owner.
Spotted that the exhaust side turbine was jammed and when stripped to inspect, it was like this lol

Was obviously a cheap replacement.

New parts ordered for cambelt service and a low mileage turbo from a touran

Now running lovely 8)

Well until I could here the rumble of the DMF anyways d'oh!.

Looks like a clean base to start with good luck sorting it, mine was a mess when I bought it so will keep my eye on this :)

Yeah she's not a bad base. Been painted in some areas which need a little more time but thats what I do.
I already have alloys lined up for it which i'am going to refurb but not fitting til I get suspension too. Obviously having to buy a new DMF is going to slow progress
