Tablet instead of head unit upgrade?

With decent gps enabled tablets costing way less than £100, and decent non-chinese head units costing many times more than that, has anyone made use of one in their Caddy to get a Tesla like large screen display?

I looked into it recently. it's pretty easy to do, and there are apps that simulate android auto and car play.
But it is just a big phone in this set up... depends what you want.
