Ex BG Caddy with Tuning chip

Post by ransomz0 »

Hi,

I have a BG Caddy with a tuning chip (fitted by BG I am told) which is fitted on the end of a socket found and in a small waterproof bag on the left hand side of the engine compartment.

I have seen a couple of posts on here saying people have removed the tuning chip with no significant noticeable difference. Mine is different, if I unplug the chip I first of all get the amber coil symbol and the van is very noticeably less torque and reluctant to rev. It's night and day.

I was wondering if anyone can offer any explanation on this.

I am in the process of clearing some other faults (injectors etc) and would ultimately like to have the ecu remapped for better performance. I assume this would need the BG fitted go.

Thanks

Tuning boxes usually leave no trace once removed. Are you the next owner from BG? If not there could be a slim chance it's been mapped with the box fitted... It's very slim chance but I'm lead to believe it can happen... But if your the next owner ignore me

Maybe a stupid question but when you remove the box are you removing its wiring harness and going back to the factory plug?

Was just thinking the same. Unplugging the box will throw Limp mode which it sounds like is happening.

You need to trace the wires back and to where the loom diverts through the box and reconnect the original plugs together.

Thanks for the wisdom folks.

I have been unscrewing and unplugging the dongle aka "the chip"

I have attached a picture of the chip and will have a more detailed look at the wiring now.

I hadn't realised that this is new wiring loom which has been inserted in series with the original. Obvious now.

Will update once I have sorted.

Thanks

Should just be a tee piece, couple of plugs and away you go normal service should resume.

Okay, I need some further advice please.

Hopefully you can see the y cable which runs from the fuel rail (red square) to chip and back to another plug (blue triangle). I need to remove the Y cable but is there a cable harness missing which connects the fuel rail sensor directly to the other plug.

Sorry if i am missing something completely obvious !

Remove plug from blue triangle and put into sensor. Looks like it's just been moved up out of the way.

Job done thanks for the pictures and words of advice.

Initial impressions are the engine is running quieter and the occasional misfire has gone. Might just be imagination..... Wishful thinking.

It had been faulting on fuel rail pressure higher. So will see if this goes away now.

Those boxes just screw with the fuel rail pressure to fool car/van into doing somthing it's not supposed to do as such. I'd say maybe some of the faults will have been down to the box.

Yes hopefully. I'll post an update on whether the faults no longer appear once it has been runiing for a while
