Hi all, not really in the know with all things lowering. After fitting my touran bumper to my workvan I'm having trouble resisting the urge to lower it,my only problem being it is a working van and I carry quite a fair bit of kit including a water tank and I'm worried a set of coilovers or lowering springs wouldn't hold up to the weight. Can anyone enlighten me? Pic below as an idea, not thinking of slamming it but I've a set of 17s in the pipeline and want them to sit a little nicer

I carry a 250kg water tank in mine and in summer I’ll additionally have about another 50kg in gardening tools. I’d probably say with all the bits and bobs I carry at times it’s probably up at around 400kg and don’t have any problems on vmaxx coilovers. The fronts pretty low and the backs on the lowest setting.

The pic is of it with no weight in. 400kg probably drops it about 5mm further but if anything it stiffens it up. I’d get it slammed if I were you

I wouldn’t worry too much, just do it.

Mine is used as my work van and carries a lot of weight permanently, then it also carries my fishing gear regularly too. I dread to think how much weight is in there. It drives no different when it’s full and the amount it drops when fully loaded is minimal.

I use mine for work and I have lowered mine.
I can still carry the same as before.

Guys - I'm quite new to all this. My van is an ex - BG van and the suspension is really high. I have no idea how to lower it? I did call a couple if garages but they said I needed to buy a kit?
The wheels are still the original steel wheels - so eventually I want to buy some new alloys - 18inch etc, so wasn't sure I would need it lowered as much with bigger wheels?

Yeh I’d take it to somewhere that knows what they’re doing. Best off asking a question on your own post and seeing if there’s anyone local to you who can help you out

As for your wheels and height, I’d do both at the same time personally

The British Gas Caddy Maxi work vans have really heavy duty springs fitted as standard. I carry a lot of weight but the wheel gap at the rear never seems to alter much.
As for Larger 18 inch wheels you would normally reduce the tyre section to be close to the original wheel rolling diameter, so the wheel total size should be as near as possible without giving speedometer errors of more than 1 or 2%.
If you go to an 18 inch wheel it should have a 35 or 40 section. Something like 18 x 225 x 40.
I am running this size Audi 18 inch A3 Wheel and it helped bring my speedo to about 1 MPH Fast instead of 3 MPH fast.
Speed checked with Satnav.

That's great, so the stance lowering kit? Is that something you buy online and take to a garage?
If you don't mind me asking, how much did you buy it for and how much will the garage charge you? Is that all I would need bearing in mind it's leaf at the back and coil st the front?
As you can see it's quite high

Although ours isn't a work van it's low and we moved house on ours and it was fine..

When I say fine though I mean taking the usual precautions as the front lip (as we have a sportline lip/splitter on ours too) can scrape over some larger holes or dips even when she is totally empty
