metal flakes in fuel system is because of the tight clearances in the fuel pump and injectors so if engine is running at 1000rpm they are normally spinning at about 2000rpm so if they loose lubrication due to lack of fuel or wrong fuel they can easily wear leaving metal flakes in the system normally fuel filter if best place to see theses. but due to hpfp being after the filter it means you will have them in all fuel lines the tank and even in the injector which can cause injectors to fail. so if a hpfp fails and has put metal in the fuel system normally best practice is new fuel hoses. clean metal pipes tank out and if fuel rail is fitted clean that out too including the high pressure fuel lines. injectors tend to need to be removed for cleaning too and sometimes testing to make sure they are fine but worst case from a failed hpfp is new fuel pump and new injectors along with fuel system flush

They have found metal in the fuel tank unfortunately. Its everywhere in the fuel lines too. They are flushing everything.

so long as they do a good job and replace the hpfp and any injector that wont clean the swarf out of it then you should have a healthy fuel system again. my advice especially if using supermarket fuel is get fuel filter swapped out every 6-8k miles as they can get filthy quick. most of my cars when i first change fuel filters get dirty with in like 2-4k then after a few changes they last longer but you get crap in your tank from filling up so a new filter like twice a year unless your doing more than like 16k a year is cheaper than replacing hpfp or injectors

I hope it works out too. Fuel components removed and sent away currently at diesel specialist for testing cleaning . Awaiting return/report of components. That's 3 wks without a workvan. Not a DIY repair either

The way this has played out, make sure you get something properly in writing from em.......I'm not trying to be a fear-monger, but it seems like they are trying it on a bit. I might be way out of line saying that, but it's just my thoughts....

Will do. Been down to do a visual recce this morning on what's going on. It's on the ramp with bonnet up. So work going on.
Can you fit a separate secondary fuel filter in the lines that go from tank to filter housing that will withstand the fuel tank pump pressure and is translucent maybe with a magnet in it if the pump particles are magnetic just in case? Got one for my old 70s Honda cb750 4 but not pump pressure gravity fed from tank. If anyone can recommend one that they have fitted as a backup
