BANG! My engine just exploded...

Post by Frampers »

BANG!

Driving on the A31 today my engine spewed its contents onto the road.

So what do I do now?
Fit a new engine or sell it for spares or repair?

Ive had this caddy for 7 years and I love it! It's been a superb van.

Its a 2008 1.9 TDI with a massive spec (twin sliders, appearance and comfort packs, cruise, AC, electric windows/mirrors etc)

127000 miles on the clock

What shall I do? :(

I’d put a engine in it also ,looks like there’s plenty of life left in it.

I love this van, what sort of expense would I be looking at to get a replacement engine fitted?
Who could source and fit one for me?

I'm in Fleet, Thanks Guys

Looks like a nice van mate. Gutted to hear the engine has let go. It seems worryingly common on BLS engines
I’d get some quotes for another engine mate.....as someone previously said an ASZ swap seems common if you want to keep with a 1.9.
Until you know the £ situation you can’t really make a decision.
I hope you get sorted one way or the other mate.

Oh such a shame as it looks a lovely van, my van dropped a rod and i did a conversion on mine but depending on budget you could just put back in what it already has pretty cheaply and get it back on the road.

Lovely mk2 by the way if thats yours looks the same color as mine. Royal blue ?

Thanks for your comments, am looking into getting an ASZ fitted...

If there’s recommendations or anything I need to look out for please let me know. I will have a search on the forum as I am sure there’s a wealth of information about as it’s a popular conversion.

The colour is off-road grey, although to be fair the caddy looks great in any colour!

Is this a common issue for the 1.6's?

It isn’t Greg no. The 1.6s do have their issues though.

Quick question - previously this van had a remap to its standard original 102 BLS engine. If this was to be replaced with an ASZ would it run until any ECU modifications can be made?

Unfortunately I have not been active enough on the forum over the years so I can't browse some of the technical sections yet

Many Thanks!

She lives!

Thanks for the recommendations–I have had an ASZ fitted and it is running well

Now all that remains is to get the EGR coded out as it has been removed,
Does anyone know who can do this for me?

Thanks
