Limp mode

Post by Novakid »

Thought I would take the caddy for a run before booking an Mot.

When I got to about 2k revs the engine would rev fast up to 4k (foot not planted) and very little happing as in moving fast.
Did this about 5 times.
Then all of a sudden, almost sounded like a back fire.
Caddy went into limp mode straight away.
First fear was I blown the turbo, I have removed intake pipe from air box side and seems to be no play and the fins turn fine.
The only thing I noticed was the glow plug light came on the dash after the back fire sound.

I dont have diagnostic computer or this would have been first.
Any ideas or help Is much appreciated.

It’s got to be plugged in mate , it could be a number of things and we would be guessing so the only way to be sure is vcds get codes and then post results , I hope it’s nothing too serious pal👍

You could just purchase a cheapo code reader as a bare minimum. I think Toolstation do one, however you are still better of with vcds or similar diagnostic equipment. Hope its not expensive to get fixed mate.

Cheers mate, just phoned a local tunning garage he will test it with vcds and give me a print out also carry out work for 1hr for £50 plus vat
Seems a good price to me and I know the garage has a good reputation so bonus.

I use obdeleven on my Audi and caddy, really good piece of kit for the money, it’s almost I would say on the same level as vcds.

Cheers mate for the advice.
I am away to work for a bit so won't get to it for a while.

Have been thinking about every detail when doing the ASZ conversion, only thing that springs to mind is that I might have plumbed the vacum linesincorrectly (forgot to label them) would this cause the symptoms I described?

Update: I know for a fact that the lines are incorrectly installed found a correct diagram.
Will have to wait until I get back to fix and then test it again .
