Just converted my Caddy from manual to dsg and absolutely love it! Pleasure to drive now and would not consider manual over dsg ever!

dsg over manual

Post by hef355 »

I should’ve added that my dsg conversion was going from and R32 engined manual Caddy to it’s big brother 3.6 R36 engine coupled to the dsg box.

Not really a like for like comparison granted but having driven my Caddy R36 dsg daily since Xmas eve which is also 70bhp more incidentally it’s returning a slight increase in miles per gallon incredibly! It is also providing a lot more smiles per gallon too which is a lot to do with the dsg box which really is smooth and nicely set up!

I would guess however that mpg on a 1.6 or 2.0 litre diesel Caddy would suffer marginally as the dsg unit is considerably heavier than the manual box and carries a lot more oil. But the sacrifice, if any, in mpg would in my humble opinion be compensated tenfold in smiles on your face as it really is a great drive!

@M3rosco you clearly aren’t aware of mine or Doc’s 300bhp plus dsg vans then buddy ... far from “coffin dodging” machines that’s for sure!

dsg over manual

Post by RKDesigns »

@hefin: The bigger the engine the easier it moves the weight, so should be better in consumption.

Hmmz M3rosco dsg for old? Try to change gears as smooth as dsg does... will not be possible each single time... think you will agree or not Hefin?!

However it should be a tiptronic 8 gears and a 3.0 V6T bitdi 950nm torque in a caddy and Quattro (lets dream on)

Love DSG :D
I'm in a Golf R Estate DSG, and it's a lovely drive and ~300 Horses, and my 'new' Caddy Life is DSG as well. I still like to drive Manual, my wife's Golf GTD is, but don't think you can beat DSG overall. If I drive the R like Larry Lead Foot in 'Normal mode', I get on average 28's/29's, If taking it steady on a run, using 'ECO mode' then I get 34's/35's to the gallon. Not sure what the Caddy Life is doing yet. :D

I’ve got a remapped 380bhp Audi TTS in dsg and the gear change is insane, in sport mode on the paddles I honestly don’t know how you could measure it, it’s instant
This is our first DSG and has converted me for good, to the point where the caddy is going to be converted to it this year

dsg over manual

How to beat a computer which knows the exact moments of changing gears... humans aren’t that punctual and will loose it manually from dsg.

And the tiptronic 8gears has flippers but never use them...
