It's a pain to do tbh, If I knew I wouldn't have bothered! I put two new pioneer 6x9s in my bulkhead so I thought I'd change the door ones aswel, you also need speaker adaptors
I got this set off Amazon.
You have to drill the rivets out of the original speakers then screw/clip the adaptors and speakers in, then remove original connector and wire it into new speakers.
After I wired my bulkhead speakers (above headrests) in I can't even hear the door ones, so kind of seems like a waste of time now! Image

Longer job to replace speakers lol but door cards are easy.
You have to drill out the rivets holding the old speakers in and use adaptors for the new speakers

It is bit long time replace then but well worth it in my opinion. Went for some jl audio c1 components.

Also looking at getting some jl audio sub behind a seat. Probably an 8/10 "

I've just put a little Kenwood sub under the passenger seat .....its made the world of difference to the sound in the van. Even with the stock shitty speakers!

@Ghost-rider
Sorry don’t get on here much :D but yes they’re amped with a JL 4 channel as it also runs an under seat JL sub. Thanks

Hi

I upgraded the speakers in my caddy with a morel maximo woofers and tweeter kit that was previously installed in my clk.

As people have said above the oem speakers are riveted in and have to be drilled out

For me that was the easy part!

The hard part was installing the remote tweeters and wiring. the crossovers that came in the kit I mounted behind the door card and the tweeters to the empty tweeter position in the dash.

To do this I had to create a basic harness, I used single cores from some flexible cable and then use lots of tessa fabric tape to protect them, they where approx 1.5m all in.

Then to route I had to take the rubber door connection loop to bits and feed the cables through that and then up to the dash tweeters.

Over all it’s a big improvement over the standard paper speakers but far from perfect in my opinion.

Its definitely better but as I’m not a audio expert i think my choice of speakers was wrong for a really good outcome.

it’s either super bright with hardly any middle or then way too bassy as I try to adjust it.

I put a small amount of silentcoat mat in the doors and behind my speaker adapters at the same time but not nearly enough, maybe if I used much more in the doors and cab the sound would be much better.

No amp needed as the headunit has more than enough power to drive mine loud, anymore and will just get even more plastic rattles

Also maybe a better VW head unit with higher quality built in amp would give me better results.

Hope your upgrade goes better!

I’ve just got myself a free set of 4 Bose door speakers & tweeters from an A3. Got to be better than standard ones. Running them through a Kenwood DDX5016DAB. Nothing to loose by trying them I reckon. 👍
