I agree with you on the colours Katie, there’s a great choice.

Not seen one in the flesh yet, our local dealers didn’t have any in stock, we're booking in for a service soon so maybe they’ll have one in to look at.
Would be interested in seeing a factory maxi kombi, wouldn’t be interested in the price though :lol:

I’m trying my damnest to try and like this Caddy but i’m not even mustering a glimmer of enthusiasm sadly! ... I wonder if it will grow on me, but all it’s doing currently is making me appreciate the mk 3/4 even more ...

I haven’t seen anything on a new kombi yet only a swb life .
Judging on the swb panel van prices they will be well over 30k by the time you’ve specked one properly!!

@kombi140

Agree completely, the price of commercials seems to have gone way through the roof, there knocking on the price of some high end luxury cars,
Take the California transporter, you can buy a cheap house in some areas for less than the price of one of those new, let’s not forget that’s it’s basically a transporter panel van with some refinements.

Not seen any pictures of the kombi models either, only the life. Models as we know them

Here is a few more pics of the van, it’s Fortana Red, to drive the new Caddy is massively improved on the MQB platform, and everyone who has seen the van in the metal has said it looks better than the pics.

@sportvan
Thanks for the photos, I like the look of the modern cabin, it’s also nice to see that vw are now including an engine cover as standard.

Can you notice a big difference in handling/ characteristics compared to your mk4?
Is there any thing you preferred on the mk4?

Thanks

Steering wheel of the mk4 has a phone button and this one doesn’t, the 150ps was gutsy, but this one doesn’t feel much slower. Handling wise this van feels a lot more taughter the steering has a little more feel and less tendency to under steer, the back end is less bouncy on rough roads, and feels more planted.

I didn’t purchase the van to enter it into beauty contests, but looks wise it’s ok, the front is a bit bland, and what with it being a box on wheels, yes, it will look like other vans. But with what else is currently out there in this segment, this for me is still the better van.

@Sportvan fair play, don't let the negatively towards the Caddy5 get you down. I think calling any forum members vehicle ugly is a bit out of line. I got one look forward to seeing more of your Caddy5.
I seen my first Caddy5 on the road today, liveried up and escorting a wide load on the M42. I didn't get much time to look but I do think if I were in the market for a small van at the present moment, it would definitely be my choice.

@sportvan. I wasn't being personal with my comment it was just a general observation & @Doc I apologise if my comment was 'out of line'. Please remove if it offends or likely to offend others.

I’ll be honest, I’m not a huge fan of it as I’ve said before, but having seen one on the road, and more pictures, it’s growing on me a bit. The driving refinement has to be a good thing, as does better tech and safety features.
Thing is, pretty much all our vans were ugly ducklings when we first bought them, even the amazing ones like Lister’s, Barbel’s, and Dan’s. From trial and error, shared knowledge, and a few scraped knuckles, the boundaries have been pushed for what you can do with a vehicle that’s ‘just a van’. The features in PVW and similar say it all.
This new one will be no different. There are some determined people out there that won’t stop until they get it looking as they want it to, no doubt blazing a trail for others to follow.
Think of it not as a write off, but a challenge!

I think it’s nice! Interior is phat and once it’s been around a while and there’s aftermarket stuff available it’s only going to get better. Enjoy Sportvan

@sportvan

How do you find the dsg? We’ve only ever had manual transmission but keep thinking about auto if we change, I think the mk5 maxi would be our choice in a kombi variant, need to see and test one yet.
We like all the tech and safety features they offer in the mk5, we have all the same tech in our r design Volvo and really like it.
We look forward to seeing more about on the road and it’s nice to see a bit of a change after such a long time with a similar shape.
