Let the build begin
PTC heater install for me today!
Managed to pick up a PTC heater (rev E), wiring and fuse yesterday for the rather modest sum of £15, result!
It’s not the easiest of things to install, took 3 hours, a bit of cursing and a little bit of skin!
Testing with VCDS, all working, lots of hot air coming out the vents, test mode doesn’t seem to run the heater at full power, it got significantly hotter when I stopped the test and let it run!
Still have an error code that I can’t remove, bummer
And the cables are nice and cool, no heating up of the cable or connections.
Bring on the cold and frosty mornings!

Hoping Mrs doesn’t see this one, it’s not on my list. She has already requested heated seats, am putting heating in the back too, don’t fancy that mod as well!

Re: Let the build begin
The heater and the wiring cost me £15 from my local scrappy’s, it came out of a mark 5 golf, just checked that it had the power cable and fuse installed before I dismantled the dash to get to the heater box. Also checked that the earth cable was installed, it earths to the chassis part way along the passenger side sill under the trim.
Took about 45 minutes to remove the PTC heater and then about 3 hours to remove the power cables from the wiring loom.
Install took about 3 hours because I installed the heater and then realised I couldn’t access the earth cable easily, so I removed it again, fitted the cable and then refitted it.
All straight forward if you’re comfortable with wiring. Key thing is to make sure you use the right cables, make sure the connections are clean and really important that the connections are tight as the heater can draw up to 80 amps, 1000 watts and will arc given half a chance.
CanBUS connection was easy, just match up the colours.

Re: Let the build begin
Your new camera, you said the guide lines can be turned off, how?
Thinking of getting one for reversing but also one for another use.

Re: Let the build begin
Hi, there are 2 wires on the lead near the camera, one for the lines and the other to reverse the image to front view.
Simply cut the relevant wire to change the default, reversing with lines to your requirements
It’s chucking it down up here at the moment so can’t nip out and take a picture.
This is the camera I bought https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Car-Parking ... 2749.l2649

Re: Let the build begin
That’s how I’ve seen it done on others, can’t see the wires in the pictures on there and it doesn’t say anything. Messaged them about the lines and they said “Friend, the parking lines will always there. The parking line is built in the camera.”
