You can get away with leaving the shelf in place mate, there’s a little plastic cutting to be done though. As for the A pillar, yeah that’ll need removing. I personally find refitting them a ball ache. There’s a guide in the how to section for the w8 fit too

Seen the how to and thought, hmmm let’s do some of the existing list first..... is it time to add it yet?
A pillars are a pain I agree, should have run extra wires up it when I ran the power for dash cam and the video wires for the tv but then I should have done a shark fin aerial at the same time :D
I think I’ll wait until I can afford a shark fin then do the light wiring at the same time.

W8

I got a cheap one from AliX and it seems good quality.
Just getting hard to find grey not beige available there.

£25 vs 70 from other places.

I cut down the socket on the lamp rather than the shelf then soldered a pig tail connection type thing to the PCB. This just had a socket for the original plug to go into on the end. Plus that extra dimmer wire soldered to the board.

Had to Dremel a couple of tiny grooves into the shelf to locate the 2 spring clips on the front edge of the hole.

Pain in the neck that A pillar trim 🙄

Yeah, you’ve been busy enough, you don’t need any more ideas for a few weeks
I’ve had mine off a few times, and I ended up taking the van to VW to have the trims refitted the last time. They’re never coming off again!!

I removed one of the middle clips the first time as it just wouldn’t go on, it bowed in the sun so last time I put it back and managed to fit it properly.

Put the clips in the trim.... open the door and guide them from looking in from the windscreen. Easy... mines been off like at least 4 million times.

@petrev, I’m quite often wrong, but this time I am definitely right!!
@caddyluv, some lads do find them straightforward to do mate. If you ever have yours off again. Do a how to and throw it on YouTube, you could save us our sanity

@the swan fiend

I was thinking more along the lines of the next time @caddyluv takes the A pillars off then give us all a shout to head round and have a lesson

I was speaking to SCR recently about headlining and even they cursed at the thought of lining the pillars

They are bad enough to get on without making them tighter by covering them :D

I watched the VW guy do mine. He had a few trim tools to manipulate them on. Even he said they were a pig.
To think, the guys in Poznań who fitted them when they were making the 2k will have had them on in seconds.
