Re: Mk5 Gti brakes
I think they are a direct fit jay.
If you are going for a bigger front brake disc ie 312mm I believe you need to have the correct Caliper carrier to a commendate the larger disc. If you are increasing the size of the rear discs too you will need slightly longer HEL brake hoses.
This is what I have taken from the few hours I spent reading up on this on this very forum by previous owners.
Like you I’m in the process of revamping a set of Octavia vrs brake calipers to do on my mk3 caddy. Will go 312mm on the front and keep the rear discs the standard size.
Hope this made this abit clearer but I’m sure someone more knowledgeable will respond if I have missed anything out mate.
Crap times indeed, stay safe

Re: Mk5 Gti brakes
Simple way to fit those is to just put on the discs and carriers, the calipers are the same just not red. If you're ok with bleeding brakes then swapping the calipers will be simple. Just make sure you're fitting some that are decent condition and not busted seals/bellows.

Re: Mk5 Gti brakes
Same as the fronts, you can fit GTI carriers and the larger diameter discs without changing the caliper.
I'm fairly sure this applies to the Caddy4, I've not heard anyone say they are any different.

Re: Mk5 Gti brakes
That's unfortunate, they must have bad pads or discs.
I don't think it's possible for the same caliper acting on the same pads with a 8.5% increase in disc diameter can be worse unless something is wrong.
I know lots of forum members have done this and noticed an improvement, VW even fit GTI size discs to the more powerful vans.

Re: Mk5 Gti brakes
Well tbh I haven't changed the discs and pads
I jus whacked on what was supplied with the callipers just to make sure it all works
It has pagid pads n i don't know what discs they are
I was also thinking that too
So next step will be new brembo pads and discs for the set up

Re: Mk5 Gti brakes
Also, if the pads and discs were swapped around during any of the process, they'll need to bed in to where they are fitted now.
When I went from 288 to 312, I noticed no difference whatsoever, though clearly there is more leverage from the pads, and possibly slightly more cooling capacity.
I also have 310mm vented rears, and with the whole setup, I can tow a heavy-arse old caravan around some nasty roads with no dramas.

Niiiice set up you got
Thanks will let them bed in and see how it goes
My mechanic mate told me to look for mk5 r32 rear set up as they're bigger than gtis, so that's next lol
