Garret turbo upgrade for 1.6tdi

Post by Gazmingo »

Hi guys its been suggested to me instead of engine swap for 2.0tdi.
Darkside do a turbo upgrade kit for the 1.6tdi. 175 bhp with dpf delete and new map?.... has anyone done this?? And was it worth it. Or did it just cause problems?
Tks in advance

I’m in the process of doing a turbo upgrade.
But I didn’t get mine from darkside. Darkside are excellent at what they do.
I just bought one from eBay a Genuine VW CR 170 part number 03L253010F. Cost me £140 second hand. I have now sent it off to KRS turbos to get a stage2 hybrid done to it. It will come back nearly brand new. They say it will prejudice between 220-240 bhp safely

@Sean1066 Hi mate. That sounds a little cheaper than 680 quid. What does the stage 2 hybrid involve? Are you having stage 2 map???
Cheers

They are for a 2.0 tdi.
It’s a bigger turbo. It’s a straight fit and you don’t have to have it refurbished but I’m doing it for my own peace of mind and a bit more bhp.
As for a stage 2 hybrid New seals bearings and compressor wheel.

@Andrew No I couldn’t tell you for sure if that’s what darksides upgrade is. But it could be as just doing a 2.0L swap EGR delete could give you around 175 bhp. But I’m not 100% I’m sure someone on here could say for sure as there a lot of people with the knowledge

Hi @Sean1066 ive just been on darksides website..... zoomed in and took 2 numbers off the turbo....... not part numbers. But the stamped numbers match the ebay turbo you sent the link for... any significance there do you think?

Cheers for the info Sean will look into this option as it’s a lot cheaper wonder if darkside will fit that turbo and map it or will only do the turbo they provide are you upgrading the intercooler aswell

What other options for engine upgrades are there for a 2011 1.6tdi?

Not sur what route I want to take yet but this turbo upgrade is one that I've been looking into.
Just wondering if it was possible or more to the point, easy, to drop say a Mk6 Gti engine in? I'm sure I read they run the same gearboxes anyway don't they? I've just had a new gearbox and clutch, but the engine in mine has done over 200k now so was thinning of swapping it out for something else.

Any advice welcome as I'm a full on noob...

Interested in this instead of an engine swap. My vans already remapped to 140 so would it need remapped again for a new turbo?
