MK3 Headlight help

Post by VanLife »

One of the clips for the height adjuster in my headlight has broken and the odds of finding a replacement clip seem pretty slim unless someone has a broken headlight laying around they don't want?

Anyway, as I was looking on eBay for a clip/headlight I came across the twin halogen / twin reflector lights (link below). Does have any experience of these aftermarket units? Are they much better than the bog standard single halogen units?

I wasn't planning to buy new headlights but they aren't too expensive and look much better than the stock lights.

These look pretty good!

I bought these repair clips to fix my lights, worked really well

Cut the broken ones off, screw or weld these ones on, I had to repair 7 out off the 8 across both headlights.

Your link doesn't work for me?

The clip that broken on mine if from inside the headlight, not the external ones. It's a little white clip.

MK3 Headlight help

Ah, apologies, try searching for “FOR VW Caddy Mk3 Touran Headlight repair kit bracket clips holder left side “ however these are for the outside, top and bottom of the headlight.

My bad, didn’t realise it was the internal clip at the motor

Those lights you linked to in the first post will fit, they are a good upgrade with much better light output than standard lights

These are a plug and play upgrade, no re-pinning is needed. However when you fit these you will find that only one bulb lights when you select main beam, even if you change Byte 18 to select double halogen headlights. This is due to the original coding being for dual filament (H4) bulbs used in the standard light. I think it is dangerous to leave it like this as with these lamps as 90% of the light is shining in the air. To get both Hi & Lo beams to be on at the same time when selecting main beam not just on flash, as it is on vehicles with them fitted as original equipment.
It is worth getting some new screws at the same time
Screws x4 - N-106-444-03
the ones on my van were rusted & seized at less than 4 years old
If it ain't broke, fix it 'til it is

Thanks for the info. How do I get the hi and low beams working properly?

It might be a bit different for me as my Caddy has the engine, loom, ecu etc from a 2008 Touran.

Is it possible to split the Mk3 headlights?

The lens seems to be plastic so the old trick of sticking them in the oven I'm assuming doesn't work?

I think it will be the same as it’s the BCM not the ECU that control them, they were fitted to Tourans anyway
The coding is on here somewhere it might be under Edition 30 headlights. If you can’t find it Il’ll have a copy somewhere

Did you use a heat gun? Or wack them in the oven? I'm wanting to split a pair to create some hybrid lights 👀

Stuck them in the oven! Would use a heat gun and a big box next time though, the oven elements were a bit too close to the plastic for my liking.
