Carpeting caddy maxi life
Just out of interest, has anyone taken a caddy maxi life stripped out the plastic from the rear, back to metal, and carpeted?
I know this is the norm for the van derived version, but haven't seen it done on the car version.

Can’t see why you couldn’t.
Give more space an able to put a bed over the arches.
If our bed is too small when done I may consider doing that but hoping not

Re: Carpeting caddy maxi life
I think it is a good way to go.
More room - You do lose the parcel shelf function and might want to relocate the rear speakers if you don't want to lose them too.
I am doing some camperish stuff to my Mini Life and have removed one side so far. Haven't decided whether to panel the area or carpet ...
I like to be able to fully revert to stock if possible.

Sounds achievable then.
Not thinking of putting a bed in. Yet
Got my eye on a maxi life. How do you get on with yours? Any problems with insurance?

@Papa Bear
Where did you pick up your insurance from? I’ve just been quoted over £700 for my life that I’ve yet to pick up

LV
Was recommended A-plan as being even cheaper though.

Yip A-plan are reasonably cheap, you have to list every single mod you have on your Caddy though.
Admiral are also not too expensive, limited with mods though, mainly colour coding, alloys and lowering by up to 40mm. They are not interested in the interior mods unless you fit a non standard head unit.
For me and my van
A-plan : £275, NCD mirrored from my car
Admiral : £290ish, NCD not mirrored, starting from zero
However, I’m an auld bloke and live in a small village

Re: Carpeting caddy maxi life
I did think of doing something similar with mine but don’t know how you would get on with the windows? Cut round and apply some form of trim? But I also need 5 seats for the kids.
Set, try Greenlight. I’ve been with them for a few years now and they’ve always been good on price but the vehicle needs to be modified, by the sounds of what you are planning I think you’ll be alright. Non performance mods you can update you policy on line. Performance mods you need to ring them.
Try brentacre and Adrian flux also. Both do modified insurance.

Thanks all and sorry for hijacking the original thread.
Must admit i was a bit surprised that the caddy life was only a few quid cheaper than my 3 series m sport with Aviva. I was expecting much cheaper especially with 12 years no claims
Will try those others

@petrev - how did you get on removing the panels on your maxi life? Do you have any photos?

Hi
Does anyone know if when you strip it out there is sound deadening etc ..?
Want to strip out the back part of mine and then blank out the windows - will get some insulation in readiness

Re: Carpeting caddy maxi life
My Mini Life has VW rear arch covers made of rubber and wadding. I left the in place and added sound deadening and recycled plastic insulation. Will have to revisit the insulation when I do the rear PDC upgrade ...
There is a bit of VW insulation in the roof space as well.
