Rear Knocking

Post by DeanWhit »

I'm after some advice or miracle (cheap 😎) solution..

I've had the van lowered a few weeks now (Vmaxx) and I've noticed a pretty irritable knocking from the rear left when going over potholes or going around a roundabout. Roundabouts are worse tbh, the only way to describe it is it feels like the tyre is coming off the rim, a juddery thudding rather than knocking really.
I've had a look under myself (I'm no mechanic) and everything seems tight. It's not the spare wheel.

Could it be bushes or a failed shock?

@DeanWhit . I've got the same issue. On vmaxx with flipped axle. Its always been like this as bought the van already lowered so I'd be interested if anyone has a solution or if its just 'normal'

Surely it can't be normal. Drivers side hardly makes a noise, everything seems to be coming from passenger rear. 🤷‍♂️

Must admit noise on mine seems rear in general. Its been doing it for 2yrs now. I've just got used to it. Only knocks when going over bumpy ground( most of uk roads then )

No nothing like that, it's not even that low. Arch is about half inch from the tyre.

There are about 5 different sizes of bump stops, you may be sitting on a bump stops (or very close) if they not cut, worth a check.

Just had the van on flat level ground and I'd say there's at least 2 inch gap to the bump stop. Can't imagine it's traveling that far whilst out and about. Any other suggestions?

Following this thread with interest as I’m waiting on my lowering kit arriving!

Daft thought... with the rear axle being flipped it couldn’t be the actual rear shock just bottoming out on the corners, I would imagine that this would lock the left back end and cause juddering, possibly more evident if you’re on a really low setting and giving it some beans whilst cornering?

Might be not the case with all the kits, but AP comes with slightly shorter rear shocks.

General concensus appears to be bottoming out shocks but why only the passenger rear? Makes sense on roundabouts but wouldn't it be just as bad across the rear on potholes? Like I said previous, theres very little noise from the drivers rear.

I'd be interested to see what this could be. Have been looking at getting the van lowered with the vmaxx. I did consider the stance kit but thought I'd spend a bit more to get a better set to lower it.
As far as I'm aware there's a few on here that have the vmaxx and not heard anything about it. (That I'm aware)

Hope you get to the bottom of it.
