12v sockets

Post by kev56 »

Hi, in my caddy life There's 3 12v cigarette sockets, all of which are permanently on (not ignition) activated. Is there a way to change them, twice now i been lucky and got the car started after leaving the sat nav on. Plus i want to run a cooler in the back but not have it running all the time.
Any thoughts?
I assume if i rewire it the warranty police wont be happy.

If you find which fuse controls them, you could move their fuse, and the wire behind the fuse of course, to the bottom row of the fusebox.
This row is ignition live.
Beware as their fuse may control other functions as well though?.
This way would be as OEM as possible.
There is a how to on adding extra circuits which should help.

Would a fuse piggy back be an option? Take feed from a switched fuse?

Ok, so if i go down the change the fuse position i need to find which is the correct fuse. I can't find a fuse layout / diagram anywhere for a 2018 caddy, is it another VW secret ?
Any ideas please.

Fuse 20 20A cig lighter
Fuse 28 20A 12v socket storage compartment (that should be ign live)
Fuse 53 20A 12v socket rear console + rear left side load area

I wanted an ignition supply that was only present when the engine was running, I spent the coin for one of these:
CANM8 POWER RPM
I used one of these so I don't have to cut/splice the can wires:
CONTACTLESS READER

It's not the cheapest option but I've fitted thousands at work and they work great, it only has a 1A output so I used it to switch a 30A relay and all my accessories come off that.

£50+vat for the module, the inductive reader is £35+vat (I had one in stock).
you don't need the reader, you can solder the can high/low wires.

here

i think these guys will pre-fit the reader into the plug for you if needed :D
