Buying a Caddy that’s had the Emission Fix

Would you?

Or would you hold out out for one that hasn’t been tampered with?

How much of a big deal is it?

Honestly, I’m finding buying a Caddy a bit of a minefield at the moment. It’ll be my first van and I’ve only just found out the speed limit is different

Cheers! It’s so annoying - van looks ideal apart from that.

Yea it's a pain mate, As I said I haven't got all the details, (i think there is a thread on here with all the details of what owners have reported by @dan@biali)

And again some owners are fine with it because that's all they know, so before you take my word for it, have a deeper look into it, but there is definitely some reported power and reliability issues that the update causes

Thanks - will have a search for the thread.

I suppose I could always get it reversed, but can’t really be arsed with the hassle of that!

If everything else is right with the van, get it, but budget about £400 extra for a rollback and remap......trust me, its well worth it.

Mine was transformed, from a nice van, that behaved nicely, like a nice van should.......to a blimmin naughty puppy, that pi###ed on the carpet!

Its true though...!
I finally got a caddy when my Kangoo died (RIP), and it drove pretty similarly to be honest......i noticed a funny rattle and googled it....then investigated if it had the 'fix'.....i had all the symptoms.
Had it rolled back, ran it lime that for a bit, then had it mapped from 102-147/150, and now find myself like a boy racer again.....!
If I keep my revs below 2000, it is perfectly normal, and you could let the vicars wife drive it, but from 2000-2500 it goes a bit mental...! I love it!

Agree with Steadlocks, if the van is right I wouldn’t let it bother you. I bought mine with the emission fix already done, then when the extended warranty ran out I had it rolled back and remapped.

If the advertised Caddy otherwise meets your requirements - Stedlocks is right - do not get stressed over whether or not it has had that emission fix.

If the seller is not able to advise if the fix has been done then with the VIN (its visible in the windscreen) or the Registration number you can of course check for free if the emission fix has been carried out.

If it has not been done - then you are lucky. But always make clear if you ever use any VW garage or agency to explicitly tell them you do not want the emission fix.

If the fix has already been done - there are a few decent tuning firms who can undo the fix for a reasonable fee.

Be aware, this is one area where cheap man with laptop solutions may not be the best choice. Messing with the vehicle ECU which controls vital systems in your Caddy is like brain surgery - you really don't want an unsupervised apprentice involved!

There are decent tuning firms who can undo the fix - expect to pay a few hundred quid and they can also remap the engine for better fuel economy. This should be better MPG than you would be getting from any Caddy which has had the emission fix. Provided the engine power is not increased, that tuning work does not need to be notified to insurers - its simple tuning - which helps the environment and your wallet.

There are of course rolling road tuning firms like Pendle Performance who offer forum members discounted rates, and can both remove the fix and offer a range of enhanced tuning choices at ever increasing power, cost and complexity - so possibly needing better brakes and bigger turbos and injectors.

Have fun.

Thanks so much for all the info guys, really appreciate it. I’ll go and have a look at the Caddy and see how it runs.

Do you know if there are any companies in Scotland that can do the remap and roll back?
