Insurance and the joys of living in Greater Manchester

Post by Ste_J » Wed Aug 26, 2020 12:32 pm

Due to pick up my maxi life on Saturday so spent the last couple of days working out insurance options.

Tried A Plan who managed to get me a quote albeit higher than what I was paying on my 3 series m sport tourer. Tried Green light who couldn’t even quote me based on my post code and in the end I thought I’d see what Aviva said on the modification subject

Window tints. No problem don’t need to notify
Wheel upgrades. No problem don’t need to notify
Lower suspension. Need to go via underwriting although they were happy to accept the 30mm VW upgrade option that I’m talking to the dealers about
Only issue they have with suspension is if the kit allows for self adjustment

So I’ve opted to stick with them for the time being and I’ll cross the suspension bridge when the time comes.
Out of interest and keeping my documents straight I will call them and update for each mod though

Funny how specialist insurers can’t touch it or offer higher prices and yet mainstream offer the same level of insurance with no issue
Even got my price lower than what I paid on the bmw which is what I was expecting anyway

I do find it odd that the 3 series was easier to insure than a maxi life. If I was of dubious nature and had an option of either cars I’m pretty certain I’d want to take the 3 series for a spin. Especially seeing as the key could have been cloned

As someone who lives in Liverpool, I feel your pain!!
I’ve used Adrian flux for the last few years, though I’ve used breantacre and A plan as well.
When I first bought my van, I paid more to insure it than I did my previous car, which was an Audi A8.

Yup. Manchester, Liverpool and London apparently are on the no go list for most specialist insurers :(

Wouldn’t mind if I was in the middle of Manchester but I’m on the edges. So far out that 1 minute walk and I’m in the middle of farm fields :D

Insurance can be a pain sometimes but it’s something which we need!

The insurance on the caddy is £100 more than what I was paying on my octavia however, the caddy is 15 years newer and worth a fair deal more so I didn’t think it was bad.

I did have a look at Parker’s and the caddy maxi life is apparently a group 20 which is lower than the Octavia.

I also live in Manchester mate. Give brentacre a call, I've been with them before and when I got my maxi in January they were the best out there
Mines lowered, different wheels, seats in the back fitted. Also any engine Mods don't increase your premium

Thanks Cadimaxi

Will give them a try. Will see what they can come up with although I’m half tempted to stick with Aviva for another couple of months and grab my 13yr no claims :D
