Best rear dash cam location for barn doors

Has anyone fitted a rear dash cam to a barn door caddy? If so, what is the best location for the camera and do they work with rear tints or will I need to remove a small section of the film? I’m trying to find a spot that allows for the routing of cables but also gives a good view of everything behind.

Hi buddy,

I fitted mine in the black cover that houses the number plate lights, pretty much central, however you can get ones that are built in/on the high level brake light.

I have two Xiaomi 70Mai 1S dashcams. One in the front and one in the back. The dashcams cost like $50 each.

I didn't have to remove any film for the back camera. Yes, it's a bit darker and it won't have much use at night unless I walk up to the car, then it gets quite visible.

Thanks for those suggestions. I think what @Caddyluv has done will be perfect for mine as I have the rear heating elements as well. It lines up really well with the cable hole so it will just be about rodding the cable that short distance.

It was quite easy to be honest. Just dremel the plastic so the plastic cap went back flush back in the door. It’s hidden unless you enable the led. So at night people can see it’s recording.
