Aerial wiring

Post by IainH91 »

Hi All,

I don’t have any radio signal.

I have removed the radio and found aerial wiring. Plugged it in and it hasn’t helped.

The wiring seems to go towards the drivers side but my aerial is in the passenger side wing mirror. Where does the wiring run through the dash?

I’ll remove the door card and trace it it obviously goes through the door grommet. But can you get to the wiring behind the dash?

Yeah I have two!

But the wiring goes right towards drivers side but the aerial is in the passengers side.

Plus when I plug it in doesn’t work anyway.

Where does the aerial wiring run? Through the drivers grommet into the A pillar and then behind the dash or can I trace it?

One is in the mirror and the other in the compartment above your head.

Above my head?

I see conflicting information on all of the aerial questions. I believe it was just in one wing mirror.

I don’t think I will be able to chase the wire as it will disappear into the main loom, but I will try.

Is there a way I can test the aerial itself? The aerial connections are in a block and both loose.

I will look again.

Either plugging both cables in made no difference.

What’s main FM? This different to normal FM?

Why don’t you just replace the aerial with a different type or a roof aerial. The aerial I used was from Amazon and cost £50 but it’s the best thing I did by changing it. Standard Caddy aerials seem to be all kinds of places. Passenger mirror I found mine but my pals was clipped to the edge of the front windscreen. I used a universal roof aerial and it works for both Analogue and DAB. It also has a live feed to it which I picked up from the rear roof interior light. I’ve never had a radio issue since.

I would like to keep the standard aerial but I will likely fit an aftermarket one.

I got to the point of utter despair with mine. Weather it was encased in the mirror or out the reception was extremely poor. In my time as a caddy owner I’ve never seen one fixed to a point you can pick up quality reception. But I’ve seen heaps of bad reviews and problems here alone.

It’s time for change.

Cheers!

I will go DAB and then it won’t be a issue!
