Audi a1 wheel et20 fitment/offset question

Post by Joe456 »

Hi guys, posting here as currently waiting for access to the technical area of the site, sorry if this is the wrong area but have been offered a good deal on a set of wheels that I don't want to miss out on!

Problem is they are from an Audi a1 which uses 5x100 (I believe) instead of 5x112. Offset of the wheels is 39.5, would have to fit adapters which are minimum 20mm thickness so I'm thinking that takes my offset to 19.5 on a 7.5 x 18 inch rim.

Have looked around the internet and seen that this is normally going to foul the arches/door.. but wondering in a 7.5 width rim is there any chance these could work?

Audi a1 wheel et20 fitment/offset question

Post by Lister79 »

Whilst they will fit it is highly unlikely they will work without issues with the sliding door. With the dimensions stated the wheel will poke out 13.3mm further than the ideal (8.5 et45). Just depends how much that would bother you also with the cost of the adapters on top of the wheels they would need to be very cheap and a very nice wheel to make it worth while IMO.
Have a look on

Thanks, they're a good deal I think... 250 for the set freshly refurbed in this style which I really like the look of:

https://www.google.com/search?q=audi+a1 ... YzhnORuLaM

But I agree, with the cost of the adapters I'm up to around 400 before tyres so without them working right I think its a bit pointless.

Although... I've read that the 1.6 has a slightly narrower rear axle? Could that possibly be enough to negate the extra 13mm? Image

Hmm that link I posted shows a load of other wheels, it's the set on the top left that looks similar to the VW Pretoria wheels.

Wouldn’t it be better looking for a set with the correct pcd then you don’t need the adapters for the hubs. There’s plenty for sale with the 5x112 pcd.
It’s personal opinion but I’ve always thought using adapters are a bit of a bodge. Plus like you said by the time you’ve bought adapters then tires then your into big money.

Yeh I guess so, just trying to be cheap here, at least until I settle on the wheel style I want...Haha

Anything I like the look of under 700 ish seems in need of repair and I'm keen on VAG wheels rather than aftermarket.

VAG wheels definitely look a lot better in my opinion, it’s worth waiting for a decent set. Took us around 3 months of looking before a set came up at decent money that had only done 1000 miles from new with decent conti tyres and no kurbing. The chap we bought them off wanted some bigger after market so we fell really lucky.
Maybe worth the wait. . . . . . .

Are they a1 specific? The audi alloys I wanted were used on a3 and a4s etc but the a3 figment were 18" 7.5j et 54 where as the same alloys on the larger audis were 18" 8j et 43 so they may do a better fitting alloy ;)

Yeh I think I'll hang out for the right set as you say, my current wheels are ok with good tyres so there's no rush really.

Thanks for the tip RY_VW, they look to be called rs4c style alloys so will keep an eye out for a set in the right fitment... I also like the look of the Skoda Octavia VRS Gemini wheels, haven't found any pics of those on a caddy though so unsure if theyre a bit heavy/angular looking for my liking... Tried to superimpose a set of them onto my caddy using an app, but the results were too cartoon like to get any real idea
